Small community near downtown East Point
Two miles west of downtown East Point, DeLowe-Connally is a forested enclave next to Connally Nature Park, including some of the city’s oldest and tallest trees, a few dating back three centuries. Like much of East Point, the neighborhood offers longstanding parks, recreation centers and generational neighbors. "The city has done a lot to engage the community. I have been to their city council meetings a few times, and they are constantly finding new ways to invest in the area," says Lori Hanes, a Realtor with Keller Knapp Realty and an Atlanta native. The neighborhood is also zoned for an A-rated school district, with schools that offer a magnet program for the performing arts.

In spring, Connally Nature Park blooms with pink lady slipper orchids. Unpaved trails wind through the 27-acre park, past nearly 300-year-old white oaks, some reaching 100 feet. Less than a mile south, Sumner Park is home to the East Point Dog Park and the state’s only velodrome, a circular track for cyclists where bike leagues race on Wednesdays. The Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA, less than 2 miles north, has served the community since 1959, offering space for baseball, basketball and cheerleading. Next to Tri-Cities High School, Jefferson Park Recreation Center is another spot for East Point kids to hang out or play basketball after school.

Local restaurants in downtown East Point
Two miles away, downtown East Point features local businesses in brick buildings as well as Windmill Arts, a performing arts center that hosts dance recitals and plays. "Downtown is cute. It has great little fun restaurants," says Jon Huff, a Realtor who is one half of the Jon and Randy Team, a Realtor duo at Keller Williams Realty Metro Atlanta with decades of experience. He says Thumbs Up Diner is frequented, and Oz Pizza is a go-to for locals. Lori Hanes also highlights Oz pizza and a few other of her favorites. “They have a really good bakery I like called Kupcakerie East Point, and Baked Wright Bakery has cheesecake,” she says. Less than a mile away, Wayfield Foods is a grocery store and The ATL Airport District’s Camp Creek Marketplace is less than 6 miles away, anchored by Target, Publix and other big-box retailers.

"There are more theater companies, and East Point is becoming an arts hub. Some industrial spaces have been converted into creative spaces," Huff says. Less than a mile away, it’s hard to miss the statue-filled gardens and murals outside Black Art in America, a nonprofit focused on visual arts. The gallery hosts year-round exhibits featuring local contemporary artists, plus art and gardening programs for youth and seniors. Not far from there, Ballethnic Dance Company is a Black-led ballet company founded in the 1990s. The troupe now tours nationally, with "Urban Nutcracker" being one of its most popular performances.
The East Point Farmers Market offers fresh produce and local goods each season.
