East Riverdale

East Riverdale

A park-filled Washington suburb

When interviewed by the Prince George’s County Planning Department about their community’s biggest strengths, residents of East Riverdale, Maryland, responded overwhelmingly: parks. Green spaces are spread throughout this unincorporated community 2 miles from Washington, and nearly 90% of residents can walk to a park within 10 minutes, according to nonprofit Trust for Public Land. Small municipal parks, federally managed forests and kudzu-covered woodlands break up the landscape of thousands of homes. Meanwhile, surrounding highways mean shopping centers and routes to the nation’s capital are never far away.

Many single-family houses have been converted to rentals, while apartment complexes are scattered throughout the community.
