History, affordability and plenty of parks in East Setauket
The historic hamlet of East Setauket, sometimes called Setauket—East Setauket is perched on the Long Island Sound waterfront. The community is famous for its connections to the American Revolution, from the Battle of Setauket to being home to the Culper Spy Ring, whose intelligence turned the tide of the war. Today, this history is displayed proudly around town, while residents live in stately coastal homes and are within reach of several vibrant parklands for recreation.
In Setauket-East there are plenty of original buildings from the mid-17th century like these 2-story retail buildings.

Midcentury homes on spacious suburban lots
East Setauket's home market ranges from $680,000 to $1.3 million, varying by age, square footage and lot size. “It's not the Hamptons or Nassau County; it's more affordable," says Lynn Sabatelle, a Long Island local and associate real estate broker with Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty. "However, this little area is becoming increasingly expensive, so people usually stay here for a long time. It's not really a transient community." Buyers can find ramblers, bilevels, Colonial Revivals and Craftsman-style condos built from the end of World War II through the 1990s. A drive through the community reveals wide residential roads lined with shady front yard trees. Lawns are often spacious, as this suburb was settled on age-old rolling farmland.

Historic landmarks with Revolutionary War ties
Caroline Episcopal Church is a historic landmark, hosting services for almost 300 years. It's also beside the grounds of the Battle of Setauket, a skirmish during the American Revolution when British loyalists fought American militiamen who came from Connecticut by boat. The church building still has several bullet holes from the battle. History buffs can also travel to Patriots Rock, a massive boulder where the Patriot forces planned their attack on the loyalists. The Three Village Historical Society offers walking, biking and kayak tours around Setauket for folks to learn more about the area's history.
