Life on the ice in southwest Edina

In Prospect Knolls, residents can hit the ice year-round at the neighboring Minnesota Made Ice Center. “There’s nowhere else in the country that has ten hockey rinks within 10 miles — It’s a unique draw for professional and recreational skaters,” says Tom Nevers, local Realtor with Perpich Real Estate. Neighbors can step off the ice and into this southwestern Edina suburb, known for its rolling hills and quiet, wooded streets that provide a sense of privacy. “It’s arguably the most favorited area in Edina, with sprawling lots, a nice park within walking distance and easy access to major interstates for getting places quicker,” says Nevers. Between Braemar Golf Course and Lewis Ridge Park, residents have ample opportunities for outdoor recreation long after the snow melts – which averages 54 inches annually. Local landmarks like the Edina Market and Deli, Edina Coffee Roasters and the Cahill Settlement Monument – one of Edina’s oldest school houses constructed in 1864 – all play a role in maintaining Prospect Knoll's small-town feel and fostering a sense of community. With easy access to major thoroughfares like U.S. Route 169 and U.S. Interstate 494, 13-mile commutes into Minneapolis are accessible within a 25-minute drive.

Traditional ramblers and Colonial Revivals

The real estate market in Prospect Knolls is highly competitive due to its reputable school district and proximity to the Braemar Golf Course, as well as its limited housing inventory (there are only about 350 houses total in the neighborhood). “Homes here are well-kept with larger lots that aren't on top of one another," says Nevers, who has been selling in the area for over 22 years. “There’s pride of ownership here and residents tend to stay in the area for decades.” Most homes in Prospect Knolls were constructed around the late 1970s, and feature a variety of styles from traditional ramblers and Colonial Revivals to larger contemporary estates set apart on multiple acres of land. With a median sales price of $700,000, single-family homes range from the high $500,000s for a five-bedroom Colonial Revival to upwards of $2.3 million for a five-bedroom estate on 1.3 acres.
