Diners and drive-throughs
After a fun day at the lake, check out the popular Chicken Shack restaurant on Route 66 for some crispy, juicy broasted - pressure cooker-fried - chicken with classic sides like mashed potatoes and gravy. While at the Chicken Shack, be sure to sit at one of the colorful picnic tables out back so you can listen to live music during your meal. When heading back west onto “The Mother Road” the famous Pops 66 diner is impossible to miss with the giant 66-foot soda bottle with a bendy straw that welcomes thirsty travelers to check out its 700 varieties of soda including 80 types of root beer alone, and varieties as unique as teriyaki beef jerky flavored soda. While Pop’s is a convenience store and may not suit a weekly grocery run, a Walmart Supercenter sits right off I-35 for everyday needs.
