Downtown Edmonds named a Creative District
Downtown Edmonds brings creativity to southwest Snohomish County. The coastal city is about 15 miles north of Seattle and is home to over 42,000 people. Downtown is known for its views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Downtown is a compact community, mingling shops, galleries, public gathering spaces, outdoor dining and historical buildings. The walkable environment is even more stroll-friendly on some Saturdays when streets are closed to vehicle traffic for seasonal markets.
Cultural and economic vitality led to Downtown being named Washington's first certified Creative District. The Mural Project Edmonds and the nonprofit Art Walk Edmonds have brought numerous creations to the city. Other public art includes sculptures and decorated utility boxes. The Cascadia Art Museum has over 200 Pacific Northwest works. New and classic films are shown at the historical Edmonds Theater, which has a single screen. Edmonds Center for the Arts has a full calendar of shows, with musicians, comedians and dancers taking the stage.
Musicology in Edmonds specializes in vinyls and more.

It promotes local musicians of all ages, with shows on neighborhood porches and in yards. In 2024, 67 performers played at venues hosted by 36 community members or groups. The Edmonds Classic Car & Moto Show in September includes a pancake breakfast and performances.
Other seasonal events include The Rotary Club of Edmonds Oktoberfest Family Festival, which has live music, a pet parade, kids' activities and a beer garden. The Cedar Dreams Fountain and its predecessors
The intersection of Fifth and Main, originally the junction of 1880s wagon roads, is a focal point of the city. In the 1970s, it was redesigned as a traffic circle and public art site. The circle has been prone to vehicle accidents over the years. It had a stint with a sculptural fountain and a time when a gazebo occupied it. "There's a decades-long running joke," Pullin says. "'Is it a sculpture today, or is it a gazebo today? Who is going to run it over, and when?'" In 2000, the Cedar Dreams Fountain was installed at the intersection. The design includes references to environmental scenery and local historical structures, such as the steeple of the city's first church. The pergola, damaged by another crash in 2006, was subsequently rebuilt.
The hub on Main St. is Edmond's main commercial corridor.

Condos are the most common housing Downtown
Though most of the housing in Edmonds is outside the downtown area, there is a limited supply of single-family homes, such as 1920s Craftsmans and midcentury bungalows and ramblers. Townhouses built in the 1980s and 2020 are another option. Condominiums are much more common. Home prices typically range from $500,000 to $1.6 million, though some are less or more expensive depending on age, size and condition. The median sales price over a year is $940,000.
