Chaparral Park North
Sunny skies and trails for miles at Franklin Mountains State Park
With roughly 350 days of sunshine each year, Chaparral Park North residents can take advantage of nearby trails, parks and country clubs. Locals can hike, bike and jog along the trails that link the neighborhood to the Franklin Mountains. “The trails are great because lots of them are within walking distance or easy to drive up to and get started right away,” Gomez says. Franklin Mountains State Park is a stone’s throw away and is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy rock climbing, camping and hiking in the 24,247-acre park. The private, member-owned Coronado Country Club sits on 125 acres of the mountain’s foothills and is known for its finely groomed golf course.Highly-rated schools in the El Paso Independent School District
Kids can attend highly-rated schools in the El Paso Independent School District. Lundy Elementary School, rated A-minus by Niche, is two miles from the neighborhood and serves students in pre-K through fifth grade. Middle schoolers can attend school across the street at Hornedo Middle School, also rated A-minus. Franklin High School, another A-minus school, partners with Texas Tech's Health Sciences Center El Paso and the El Paso Community College to offer a magnet STEAM/New Tech program.Spanish Revival homes
Stucco walls, curving archways and classic barrel mission tile roofs are common for the Spanish Revival homes in the neighborhood. Most homes have two-car garages and sit on spacious lots. A three-bedroom townhome can cost $315,000, while a four-bedroom Spanish Revival style home can cost $370,000. Homes closer to the mountain boast unobstructed views and higher prices, starting around $440,000 for a three-bedroom ranch and rising up to $2 million for an eclectic mansion in the Estancias Coronado gated community.A short drive to coffee shops and restaurants
Residents have to leave the neighborhood to get to shops and restaurants, “but that’s a good thing, depending on who you ask,” says Gomez. “It keeps the traffic down.” A strip mall close to the neighborhood houses Common Grounds Coffee, a coffee shop with unique offerings like concha cold brew, an iced cold brew topped with the namesake Mexican sweet bread that’s made in-house. Start (or end) the day at Mas y Menos, a coffee shop that also offers wine, craft beer, brunch, lunch and dinner. The Pizza Joint is a local option known for being one of the first pizza-by-the-slice options in El Paso. For groceries, there is a Walmart northwest of the neighborhood and a Food King to the south.
