On the far eastern end of El Paso, at the junction of State Route 62 and the Loop 75 beltway, Far East/Hueco Tanks State Park is an up-and-coming, still-developing suburb with three distinct areas: businesses are clustered to the west, the eponymous state park is way up north in the mountains, and residential developments trail east toward the Chihuahuan Desert. “This is where the new homes are,” says Doris Buchmann, a Realtor with New Beginnings Realty. “If you want a new home in El Paso, this is the closest you can get to the city from the east side.”

Single-story Spanish Revival homes
Ranch-style homes built within the last 20 years are common in Far East/Hueco Tanks State Park; inspired by Spanish Mission and Pueblo Revival architecture, most have stucco exteriors, wooden-beam details and terracotta roof tiles. “You won’t find many two-story homes here,” Buchmann says, “and your sale price will probably fall between $260,000 and $380,000.” Attached garages and short driveways are the norm, and some homes feature a front porch, a back patio or both. Front yards are generally styled like mini oases, with rock gardens, low-water plantings and palm trees.
