Glen Cove has quiet streets and a convenient location
In east El Paso, Glen Cove offers winding residential streets near public schools, shopping centers and parks. The highly rated Glen Cove Elementary School sits at the neighborhood’s core. Locals will find grocery stores and restaurants along Lee Trevino Drive and George Dieter Drive. Lively recreation spaces, like Lone Star Golf Club, and major highways, including Interstate 10, are just a quick drive away. This suburban and bustling location is what attracts homebuyers. “It’s quiet and convenient to everything that’s important in the city,” says Allison Dillard, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty and a lifelong El Paso resident.
Houses built in the 1970s and 2025
Ranch-style homes and townhouses from the 1970s dot Glen Cove’s sidewalk-lined streets. Some homes have Pueblo-style influences. Modest lots occasionally feature gravel landscaping and palm trees. Houses typically have garages and three to four bedrooms. Prices range from about $170,000 to around $320,000. Buena Vida Apartments is a complex on Lee Trevino Drive.
Glen Cove Elementary is highly rated
Kids can attend Glen Cove Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche, and J.M. Hanks Middle, graded a B. They may continue to A-minus-rated J.M. Hanks High School, where Career and Technical Education pathway programs include business management, health professions and law enforcement. The elementary school is on Sam Snead Drive, while the middle school and high school are both about a mile away. Despite this proximity, Dillard says most kids take the bus or drive to school. “El Paso is not a walking city. People drive everywhere, even if it’s to go to a school that’s directly in the neighborhood.”
The neighborhood has several grocery stores and restaurants
A Food King grocery store and Family Dollar anchor Vista Hills shopping center along Lee Trevino Drive on the neighborhood’s western edge. Fast food restaurants like Starbucks and McDonald’s are in the same area. Beer signage and TVs cover walls inside Fanatics Sports Bar & Grill, one of several locally owned spots at Vista Hills. Target, Ross Dress for Less and Albertsons sit at the intersection of George Dieter Drive and Montwood Drive in the eastern part of the neighborhood. I-10, about 3 miles south, is lined with more big-box stores and shopping centers, including Cielo Vista Mall. The Del Sol Medical Center is also on the highway.
There’s easy access to Interstate 10 and U.S. Route 62
Downtown El Paso is a 12-mile drive west on I-10. U.S. Route 62, about 3 miles north, also stretches across the city. Several Sun Metro bus stops are in the neighborhood. The El Paso International Airport is less than 7 miles northwest, and the Fort Bliss Army post is 9 miles in the same direction. Flight paths from both places go over the neighborhood, and locals may hear plane noise. The Bridge of the Americas, 10 miles southwest, crosses the U.S.-Mexico border into Ciudad Juárez.
Several parks are near Glen Cove
Several recreation spaces are less than 5 miles west of the neighborhood. Pico Norte Park has soccer fields that regularly host youth and adult games. A skate park, baseball diamonds and tennis courts make up Album Park. The green space is also home to a dog park and the Gary Del Palacio Recreation Center, where locals can play basketball, lift weights and take Zumba classes. Oak and pine trees cover the 18-hole course at Lone Star Golf Club, which Dillard says is popular because it’s public and offers lessons. “El Paso has a few country clubs with golf courses, but you don’t have to have a membership for Lone Star,” she says. “Most courses here are also mountainous, but Lone Star is flat, so a lot of kids on the east side will take lessons there because it's easier.” Over 100 miles of rugged hiking and biking trails are available at Franklin Mountains State Park, about 23 miles north. The neighborhood is home to a few houses of worship, including St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Bywood Drive and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Lee Trevino Drive.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
