El Paso’s Love Road community, located in the city’s “Upper Valley,” is one of the more desirable neighborhoods on the west side, featuring upscale homes on manicured lawns with mature trees. El Paso is prone to flooding due to its arid climate, and neighborhoods close to the Rio Grande can be especially vulnerable.
Schools zoned to the neighborhood are Don Haskins PK-8 School, which has a B-minus rating on Niche, and the A-minus-rated Coronado High. The high school offers clubs and organizations in several areas, including technology, video/movie, and the environment. While both schools are highly rated, the El Paso Independent School District offers student transfers. Students can stay local for college, attending the University of Texas at El Paso, about 8 miles away.
White Spur Park, on the neighborhood’s east side, has a large, shaded playground and a multipurpose field. The El Paso Country Club is so close that part of the 18-hole golf course extends into the neighborhood’s west side. The private club also offers a heated pool and tennis courts. Westside Open Reserve is a sprawling green space nearby with a dog park, playground and skate park.
Nearby, North Mesa Street has big box stores, services and a mix of national and local chain restaurants. Leo’s Mexican Food is a popular local chain with authentic dishes and a full bar. Other cuisine options include sushi, Vietnamese, barbecue, and Chinese. For buzzy, local restaurants, residents head to downtown El Paso, about 10 miles away.
The closest local event is the Upper Valley Artist and Farmers Market, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Sunday in the Hobby Lobby parking lot on North Mesa Street. Nearby downtown El Paso offers annual events like Sun City Craft Beer Fest and El Paso Comic Con.
Interstate 10 is nearby and travels to the New Mexico border and downtown. Sun Metro buses stop along Doniphan Drive and connect passengers to the rest of the city. The El Paso International Airport is about 17 miles away.
