Northtowne Village
Old bricks and new builds in Northeast El Paso
The neighborhood features a mix of Mission Revival and ranch-style homes, many of which have brick and stucco exteriors and shingle roofs. Many older homes on the northern end cost between $160,000 and $300,000, with features such as cathedral ceilings and granite countertops. Newer homes built in the last few years are further south by Dalhart Drive and have four to five bedrooms, lofts and fireplaces. New homes are still being constructed on the southwestern corner, and Bella Estancias offers apartment options between $1,200 and $1,900 a month. “We’re sort of hidden back here off of McCombs Street,” Martinez says. “Not many people find us, but when they do, they really enjoy the community.”The North Star of education
Located east just outside Bella Estancias is North Star Elementary, which was rated the No. 1 elementary school in El Paso County with an A rating on Niche. Parkland Pre-engineering Middle School and Parkland High School offer educational programs for military families and both earned B ratings. There are also a couple of private institutions south of the neighborhood between Northeast Christian Academy and Most Holy Trinity Catholic School. “In the past when some of our residents have been looking for homes, they look at us because of the schools,” Martinez says. “That’s why people want to be in the general area.”Hills, hospitals and a highway
Northtowne Village is less than a mile south of U.S. Route 54, which runs 7 miles northeast into New Mexico. The Hospitals of Providence is also located right by the highway and is open for 24 hours. SunMetro has a bus service that runs 2 miles northwest to North Hills or 4 miles south to the Northgate Transit Center. The El Paso International Airport is 14 miles south.A 28-acre memorial park for kids and canines
Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park is a 28-acre park north of the neighborhood named after a former K-9 unit that served the community. It includes a skate park, soccer fields, softball diamonds, public art and playgrounds for children. Newer additions include a dog park with lighting and plenty of open space.Chain restaurants and convenience stores
Most fast-food restaurants are going to be closest to the highway and include chains such as McDonald’s, Whataburger and Wingstop. Local businesses include a barbershop, a nursing home and an insurance office. There’s also a handful of convenience stores by the highway such as Dollar General, Speedway and Howdy’s.
