Riverbend offers larger lots and a convenient Upper Valley location
Riverbend is a suburban community in the Upper Valley area of El Paso. “It has older homes and larger lots — there are a few areas where people have horses,” says Cesar Dominguez, Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, who grew up in Juarez and has lived in El Paso since 2010. “It’s also really close to lots of things, like the country club, Sunland Park Casino and the mall.” Nearby Interstate 10 connects residents to more city amenities but passing traffic can be noisy.
Riverbend blends spacious lots, mature trees, and close access to city amenities.
Riverbend’s colorful Stucco homes stand out with vibrant, Southwestern charm.

Mostly midcentury homes and a few acre-plus lots
Tall pine trees and mature oleander bushes shade the grassy yards, giving the area an established feel. In the western portion, midcentury brick ranch-style houses and stucco-sided Spanish Colonial Revival-style homes often rest close together behind wide front lawns. The small La Puesta Del Sol subdivision, near West Sunset Road, has a few post-2000 custom estates. In the eastern half of Riverbend, houses are sometimes more spread apart. Lots can span an acre or more, providing space for pecan orchards, private pools or horses. Most listings fall between $200,000 and $700,000. Home prices in Riverbend tend to be lower than in the quieter, newer communities to the west, such as Sunset or The Willows.
Riverbend’s Ranch-style homes offer a blend of comfort and classic midcentury appeal.

Community parks, nearby golf and New Mexico attractions
Riverbend provides close access to a variety of recreation. Residents can ride horses along the 12-mile Montoya Canal Trail, which runs through the center of the community. Braden Aboud Park rests along River Bend Drive, and it has a skate park, splash area and several sports courts. The Keystone Heritage Park, home to the El Paso Desert Botanical Gardens, is east of the neighborhood. At the El Paso Country Club, about 3 miles north, members can play the 18-hole golf course and swim in the heated pool. Bob-O's Family Fun Center is also nearby, with mini golf, bumper boats and an arcade. A narrow section of land belonging to New Mexico is south of Riverbend. It’s home to the Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

Dining out in The Substation, nearby grocery stores and a mall
Several restaurants and shopping areas are within a 5-mile radius. The Substation, about 2 miles north, is a trendy retail plaza beside the El Paso electric substation. The area is packed with shops, wine bars and restaurants, including Chase the Taste, a casual burger and sandwich shop. 150 Sunset, also nearby, serves protein-rich salads and brunch. Residents can pick up groceries at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, a few blocks south of the community. Big-box chain retail and The Shoppes at Solana, a two-story indoor mall, are just across Interstate 10.
In the large city of Juarez on the Mexican side, diners can find high-end restaurants like Ardeo, Yoko and Los Arcos. “If I’m craving good seafood, I go to Los Arcos,” Dominguez says. “El Paso has good food, but I don’t think you can find better seafood than at Los Arcos.”
Riverbend residents unwind outdoors with brews at 2Ten Coffee Roasters.

Open enrollment through EPISD plus several area private schools
Children can attend schools within the El Paso Independent School District, which earns a B-plus on Niche. EPISD assigns students to “home schools” based on their addresses, but it allows for open enrollment to any school within the district. Families must provide their own transportation to non-home schools, however. Riverbend’s home schools include Zach White Elementary School, which earns an A-minus rating. Kids can attend sixth through eighth grades at Don Haskins PK-8 School, rated a B-minus. Coronado High School earns an A-minus. Dominguez says that many parents prefer to send their kids to private schools. Neighborhood options include Mountain West Montessori, which offers infant and early childcare programs, as well as elementary and middle school education. St. Matthew Catholic School, along West Sunset Road, provides a faith-based curriculum for prekindergarten through eighth grade.
Empowering young minds, Zach White Elementary embraces creativity and exploration in kids.
Coronado High School was founded in 1962.

Car travel on I-10, nearby train tracks and border crossing logistics
Both Sun Metro and South Central Regional Transit buses make stops near the community, but most residents rely on cars to get around El Paso. Interstate 10 runs less than a mile east of Riverbend, which adds commuter convenience as well as noise. “We have a lot of traffic coming through,” Dominguez says. “Truckers are moving products from here to all over the country.” In Juarez, manufacturers produce everything from windmill blades to Electrolux refrigerators. Though many goods travel by truck, others are transported aboard freight trains, which pass directly east of Riverbend.
Downtown El Paso has a few hospitals with emergency centers, but the city’s only Level I Trauma Center is in the University Medical Center of El Paso, 12 miles away. The El Paso International Airport is approximately 16 miles east, and there's an Amtrak station about 8 miles southeast.
The closest port of entry into Mexico is less than 10 miles southeast. Dominguez says that cross-border travel times can vary greatly based on the time of day. “Around 5 p.m., people are getting off work and the line can take an hour and a half, but midday, everyone is working, so you can just drive across.”
Important to know
Throughout the city of El Paso, poor air quality is a concern. In 2023, the region received a $1 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. The funds will be used for pollution-reduction programs and developing a more climate-friendly infrastructure. Riverbend has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, compared to 4 nationally.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
