Saint Vitus is a residential community surrounded by restaurants and green spaces
Activity surrounds the residential El Paso neighborhood of Saint Vitus. Green spaces sit to the north and south, and nearby shopping centers contain several retail stores and local restaurants. That plethora of options is one way the suburban community stands out. Another is its location next to Texas State Highway Loop 375, which gives drivers access to the rest of the city. At the same time, area homes typically sell for modest prices below the city average.
Mediterranean-influenced homes on walkable streets
The community has a variety of Mediterranean-influenced homes with garages. They sit on wide roads that usually have rounded corners and sidewalks on both sides, watched over by streetlights. Front lawns typically use gravel instead of grass, though yards can still have bushes and small trees. Multilevel homes can sell for $200,000 to $300,000. Smaller single-level properties can range from $130,000 to $230,000. A handful of brick duplexes can cost between $300,000 and $315,000.
The Socorro Independent School District and the Trailblazers Early College program
Students are served by the Socorro Independent School District. They can attend Sierra Vista Elementary School, which holds a B Niche grade, as does Capt. Walter E. Clarke Middle School. Americas High School offers the Trailblazers Early College program, a partnership with El Paso Community College that helps students earn an associate degree at the same time as their high school diploma. It earns a B score. The neighborhood is also home to Vista Del Futuro Charter School, which serves kindergarten through eighth-grade students and has a B-minus from Niche.
Local restaurants like Corralito Steak House and multiple shopping centers
Within the neighborhood, Rookies Sports Cantina has several TVs for people to watch the biggest games of the day. Mezcaleria Mano Santa has traditional entrees plus a weekend breakfast buffet, and often hosts live music. Nearby, Urban Gyro has made-to-order modern Mediterranean food, and Corralito Steak House serves from a varied menu in an upscale environment. Julian Cardona, the manager at Corralito, says the restaurant is highly regarded thanks to its friendly service and its attention to detail. “We have authentic Mexican flavor,” Cardona says. “Jalapenos, tomatoes and onions. Those are the basics of everything, and it’s all done fresh.”Zaragoza Marketplace, with Cold Stone Creamery and GameStop among its stores, and El Paseo Marketplace, which houses Target, Marshalls and PetSmart, are to the north. Walmart Supercenter is also close.
Drivers can reach Texas State Highway Loop 375 with ease
The neighborhood is bordered by Texas State Highway Loop 375 to the east. The road provides access to all parts of the city. Downtown is close to 20 miles west, and El Paso International is around 15 miles away. Sun Metro operates a public bus service that makes stops along Vista Del Sol Drive and North Zaragoza Road, the community’s western and southern borders. “The roads are pretty clear here,” Cardona says. “Around Zaragoza, they’re open at all times.” During the windy season of March and April, dust storms can lower visibility for drivers. Temperatures can rise above 105 degrees in the summer.
Ball fields, playgrounds and walking trails are close, as is Oasis Lanes
Just north of Saint Vitus is El Paso County Sportspark, which features several baseball and softball fields. A bat and ball-themed mural on a nearby water tower welcomes visitors to the park. To the south, Walter Clarke Park has a playground and a large open field for activities. A few miles west is Marty Robbins Park, with an indoor pool and basketball courts and a walking trail among its amenities. The Oasis Lanes bowling alley caters to all ages. Several churches are close to the neighborhood.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
