San Juan is an older neighborhood with access to all of El Paso
San Juan has always been about access. The residential neighborhood is just north of Alameda Avenue, El Paso’s main highway in the 1950s. The city developed outward from there — first centrally, where the community is, then to the west, and in more recent years, to the east. Today, San Juan calls Interstate 10 its northern border, giving residents access to El Paso’s growing list of amenities. “It still has a good location and good prices, and people like those older homes,” says Albert Aguilar, a Realtor with Mary Aguilar Realtors.

Mediterranean-influenced homes and investment properties with gravel yards
Neighborhood homes are Mediterranean influenced with stucco or brick exteriors, two to four bedrooms and carports. Most were built in the 1950s and 1960s. Prices typically range from $130,000 to $175,000, well below the city average. Investment properties are also available, usually from $70,000 to $200,000. Community streets often have sidewalks on both sides, and streetlights are frequent. Roadside mailboxes are rare, with mail often delivered to front doors instead. While some front lawns use grass, most use gravel or stones. Yards can still feature bushes or small trees.

U.S. Route 62, known locally as East Paisano Drive, bisects the neighborhood and can lead residents toward El Paso International Airport, around 3 miles away. Fort Bliss is about 5 miles north. “The traffic is like the rest of El Paso,” Aguilar says. “It’s not too congested — yet.” Sun Metro public buses make several stops throughout the community. Temperatures can exceed 105 degrees in the summer. March and April can bring dust storms that limit visibility.
