Concentrated population close to East Side amenities
A few blocks from Interstate 10 in east El Paso, the Stone Ridge neighborhood may be small, but it’s well-established and growing. “It’s a nice area, just very densely packed,” says Tony Jimenez, a real estate agent with Thrive Realty. “I heard somebody at the post office say it’s the most residential area in the 79936 area code. It can get really congested, but, at the same time, there’s a lot to do and places to go eat.” Young families in particular appreciate the proximity to grocery stores, pediatric care facilities and Myrtle Cooper Elementary School.

Contemporary builds within walking distance of shopping centers
Split-level and two-story contemporary homes dominate the property mix, many with Spanish Mission-style elements like arched windows, low-pitched roofs and stucco walls in homage to the city's centuries-long development. “It’s an older neighborhood — but when I say old, it’s not like early 1900s old,” says Isacc Lightbourn, YouTube host and Realtor with Clear View Realty. “A lot of those houses were built in the 1990s, maybe early 2000s.” Small lawns and rock gardens punctuate the properties, most of which measure under 10,000 square feet and include driveways and attached garages. The lion’s share of residential real estate is concentrated in the upper portion of the neighborhood, within walking distance of local shopping centers. Modest-sized homes are priced at $150,000 to $250,000, while larger builds with similar designs might cost $250,000 to $450,000, making the average price point slightly lower than nearby neighborhoods like Las Palmas and Ranchos del Sol.

Pockets at Plaza Las Misiones
The Plaza Las Misiones business center anchors the neighborhood’s northeastern corner. The main draw is Pockets, a billiard hall dishing out wings and cold beer. Twin stone pillars and a barrel-tile roof welcome diners to Carnitas Queretaro, a Mexican restaurant with patio seating. Other onsite drinking and dining options include Brew, Cervecería 19 and Werk Bar. Shoppers can find groceries and household sundries at Food King and Family Dollar in the Sun Ridge shopping center on the other side of the neighborhood. Plaza Las Misiones and Sun Ridge are both within walking distance of the residential areas. Farther south across George Dieter Drive, the rolled tacos at Chico’s stand out as a local favorite.

Marty Robbins Park and Recreation Center
Stone Ridge has no parks, but most houses are within a half-mile of Marty Robbins Park, one of the area’s most impressive green spaces. The park offers a baseball field, playground, basketball courts and a loop trail measuring almost a mile. The giant splash pad features a tropical theme, and the adjacent aquatic center has an indoor pool with a corkscrew waterslide. Marty Robbins Recreation Center houses a gymnasium, ballet studio and ping-pong tables on the other end of the park. Just south of the neighborhood on Rojas Drive, Cinemark Tinseltown Las Palmas screens the latest flicks.

Points of interest on Pellicano Drive
North Zaragoza Road skims the eastern boundary, leading to Westwind Pediatrics and Summit Urgent Care – East El Paso, both within a mile of Stone Ridge. Following North Zaragoza in the opposite direction leads to I-10, the easiest route to El Paso International Airport, 8 miles away, and downtown El Paso, 14 miles away. “Even though it’s on the East Side, that area has pretty quick access to the highway and downtown,” Jimenez says. Buses on Sun Metro’s Route 74 stop in several spots on Pellicano Drive and offer service to Americas High School and University Medical Center East, both about 2 miles away.

Things to consider
In 2023, the American Lung Association ranked El Paso the 14th worst city in the country for ozone pollution. Improving the air quality is a challenge because international bridges and highways see tons of commercial traffic and idling vehicles, both of which contribute to the problem. Although Stone Ridge is several miles from the nearest border crossing into Mexico, air quality is an ongoing concern for all of El Paso.
