Vista Real West
Houses built within the last 30 years
Houses built between the late 1990s and early 2000s sit along Vista Real West’s sidewalk-lined streets. Bungalows, New Traditionals and contemporary-style homes are common, and houses typically have three to five bedrooms and attached garages. The neighborhood lots tend to smaller; the median lot size in the neighborhood is just over 5,200 square feet. Homeowners here most often have minimal landscaping. Instead of lawns and flowering plants, most residences feature gravel landscaping dotted with palm trees and shrubs. Prices range from about $180,000 to around $285,000. The neighborhood’s median price is around $210,000, which is approximately $60,000 less than the median for all of El Paso.Several big-box grocery stores are easily accessible
Locals can grab groceries at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Saul Kleinfeld Drive, spanning the community’s western edge. A gas station, Little Ceasars Pizza and a few nail salons are in the same area. The street is also home to a few locally owned restaurants. For instance, Las Lunas Bakery, located in a red and yellow plaster storefront, is a drive-through spot serving tres leches cake and tamales. Shoppers will find more stores, like Target and Albertsons, less than 3 miles southwest at the intersection of George Dieter Drive and Montwood Drive. Stores like Apple and Macy’s are in Cielo Vista Mall, about 7 miles west.Montwood High is known for its football
Kids can attend Elfida P. Chavez Elementary, Montwood Middle and Montwood High, which all earn B grades from Niche. The high school’s football team, known as the Rams, attracts large crowds for home games. “They take Friday night lights seriously here,” Weber says. “Parents go, even if their kids don’t play football, and alumni fly in from all over the country for the homecoming game.” A decades-themed spirit week is held before the homecoming game, which happens at the end of September.Loop 375 reaches downtown El Paso
Vista Real West is a car-dependent community. Loop 375 is accessible about a mile and a half east. A 20-mile drive west on the highway takes drivers to downtown El Paso. Locals can cross the U.S.-Mexico border into Ciudad Juarez, about 12 miles south. Sun Metro buses in the neighborhood offer rides around east El Paso. The Hospitals of Providence East Campus, about a mile away, has 218 beds and a Level III trauma center.Aircrafts take off at El Paso International Airport and Fort Bliss
El Paso International Airport and the Fort Bliss Army post are about 12 miles northwest. Aircraft from both places occasionally fly over the neighborhood, and locals may hear flight noise. Fort Bliss is the top employer in the city, and Weber says Vista Real West is a popular place for military families to live. “If they don’t live on base, Fort Bliss employees tend to live within 15 miles of the base to keep their commute time under half an hour.”Several small parks are nearby, and so is The Beast
The neighborhood is within half a mile of several small green spaces with playgrounds, including Indian Heights Park. Skateboarders can catch air on the bowls, ramps and ledges at the Dick Shinaut Skate Park, less than 2 miles south. Eastside Regional Park, 3 miles east, is locally known as “The Beast” because it’s El Paso’s largest city-managed recreation space. “It just opened in 2021, and everybody thinks of it as the nicest park in the city,” Weber says. Park visitors can run around a track, play pickup basketball and swim in the lap lane pool inside the contemporary-style recreation center. Blue umbrellas shade lounge chairs around Oasis Water Park, home to a lazy river, twisty slides and a surf simulator. Weber adds that part of the park is still being built: “The city is adding pickleball courts and baseball diamonds, so the park is only going to get more popular.” Construction is estimated to be complete by the summer of 2026. The neighborhood is surrounded by a few houses of worship, including St. Mark Catholic Church, which resides in an Italian Renaissance-style building on Pebble Hills Boulevard and offers Mass celebrations in both English and Spanish.
