Its rural, jungle-like feel draws homeowners looking for solace from otherwise busier tourist spots on Florida's Suncoast. “It’s one of those areas that’s not packed with people like Clearwater,” says Noah Rouse, general manager of Anclote Village Marina. “You don’t have to make dinner reservations everywhere. We still have everything, but we aren’t in the middle of nowhere.” Rouse adds that Clearwater and its commercial beaches aren’t far, so residents—often retirees referred to as “Snow Birds”—enjoy the neighborhood’s small-town appeal and nearby tourist attractions.

Leafy rural roads near the Anclote River
Paved streets—only big enough for one car—give way to dirt roads lined with fallen pine needles and overgrown Bermuda grass. The entire neighborhood is rich with native trees like oak and camphor, and an overgrowth of moss can be found on the tops of wooden fences. Yards are also overwhelmed by trees and foliage, with some revealing palm trees, bamboo and a variety of wildflowers and cacti. Most residences were built between 1950 and 1980. Cape Cod, ranch-style and mobile homes are common and often feature a sunroom or a railed rooftop platform, known as widow roof walks. Prices typically range from $150,000 to $220,000 for a two to three-bedroom home; half-acre lots can go for between $50,000 and $70,000. Due to its proximity to the Anclote River, roughly 90 percent of homes in Anclote River Acres have a moderate risk of flooding over the next 30 years.
Close to Pasco Palms and James E. Grey preserves

Grey Preserve features a playground and a 2-mile trail and boardwalk. “You’ve got the Anclote Key Preserve State Park, which is really nice because you can only access it by ferry,” Rouse says. “So, it’s a little more secluded and peaceful.”

Families enjoy short commutes to Pasco County Schools
