Late-1900s homes and calm streets comprise this community
Nestled between a hospital campus and a business park with manufacturers and low-slung office buildings, Century Oaks West is a residential subdivision in the northwest side of Elgin. Within the neighborhood, residents spend time relaxing along the trails of Burnidge Woods Park and at the playground in at Century Oaks Park. Trips out of the neighborhood include shopping along Randall Road or attending events in downtown Elgin, 3 miles southeast. “It’s a very, very quiet neighborhood,” says Karen Pawlak, a Realtor with Baird & Warner with 16 years selling in Chicago’s northwestern suburbs. “It’s a great centrally located little nook, with an amazing train station nearby and a gazillion shopping stores within a few miles.”

Split-levels and ranch styles
A bird's-eye view of Century Oaks West reveals residential avenues that wind and curve throughout the subdivision, featuring narrow sidewalks on either side. “A lot of residents walk or bike the neighborhood, and if you like to skate, you can rollerblade around the cul-de-sacs,” Pawlak says. Tall canopies of white oak and silver maple trees line the front and back of homes on quarter-acre lots. Split-level and ranch-style built in the 1970s and 80s comprise most of the community, alongside a handful of Cape Cod styles. These typically range in price from $300,000 to $400,000. A series of condo and townhome communities are also present in the southwestern and northwestern portions of the community, ranging from $130,000 to $335,000, depending on size and condition.

The park, which sits directly west, is accessed from within the neighborhood at the end of Banks Drive, where visitors can enjoy quiet walks through the forest. Meanwhile, Century Oaks Park, on the eastern side, offers a traditional park experience where little ones can run loose on its recently renovated playground.
