From Queen Annes to Victorian inspired Traditional-style homes
Near West Elgin has a suburban feel with street lights and high-reaching pine and oak tree canopies lining cement sidewalks running beneath. Homes sit on quarter-acre lots with narrow walkways connecting them to streets out front. Due to its age, the neighborhood features a variety of classic architectural styles. “The oldest homes here date back to the 1850s, with the community’s oldest situated closer to the river,” says Thomas Krebsbach, Realtor with Vintage Home Realty. Queen Anne-style homes fill the eastern portion of the community, where lot sizes are slightly larger. Traditional styles with Victorian accents, like ornate wood detailing and cone-like spires, as well as bungalows, ranch styles and American Foursquares built in the 1920s comprise the remainder housing stock in the community. Home prices typically range from $200,000 to $600,000, depending on size and condition. Though primarily residential, longstanding houses of worship like St. Laurence Catholic Church and First Presbyterian Church of Elgin are also in the neighborhood .
