Renovations coming to Walker Park
Although not part of an official park, tennis courts, a playground and a half basketball court populate a stretch of green on the neighborhood’s north side.
Just a mile east of the neighborhood, more recreation is available at Walker Park. “Walker Park is a destination for many in the area,” says Donna Mitschelen, manager of the Osolo Branch of Elkhart Public Library. “There is a large green space and a walking path which is constantly in use.” The park’s playground will be updated in fall 2024 to expand wheelchair access and implement play equipment geared for children on the autism spectrum.
Nearby Pinewood Park has additional athletic facilities, including tennis and basketball courts. The park sits just north of Pinewood Elementary about a mile from Greenleaf Manor.
Though the neighborhood is close to the St. Joseph River, the closest access points are in downtown Elkhart where there are places to launch boats and play on the water's edge.

The recently expanded Osolo Branch of Elkhart Public Library is a vital resource in the area, keeping a busy schedule of programs for children, teens and adults. “Our storytimes are very popular on Tuesday mornings, so much so that our Young Peoples Assistant has to run two each Tuesday,” Mitschelen says. Other programs include game nights and crafting events, historical presentations and musical performances and a monthly Lego-building club. “The library is committed to providing a space for the community to gather,” Mitschelen says. “Being a branch location allows the staff to be vested with those we serve, allowing us to treat them as part of our family.”
