Old Town Erie's Briggs Street
Old Town Erie is a residential neighborhood centered around Briggs Street, the town’s epicenter for shopping and dining. New developments like restaurants and shopping malls are popping up, but Old Town is still expected to remain the city's epicenter of activity. “There is some stuff going up to the south of Old Town, but even when it’s finished, I still think people will come to Old Town,” says Bernadette Melton of Compass, who has nearly a decade of experience in the area. “It has great boutique shopping and some great restaurants, but it’s also where all the town activities like Brewfest and Boo on Briggs Street are.” Located 15 miles east of Boulder, Erie was a mining town settled in the 1870s with a historic Old Town full of saloons. Today, the neighborhood is a dining hub with steakhouses, Creole eateries and breweries.

Briggs Street is home to fine dining like 24 Carrot Bistro, a farm-to-table spot with a bar that stretches in front of large wooden bookshelves. Ramen eatery Birdhouse lives up to its name with a large mural of birds on its façade and owl-shaped cocktail glasses. Lucile’s Creole Café has authentic beignets, shrimp and grits and other New Orleans staples, while Wapos is an old garage turned Mexican restaurant with tequila bottles lit by neon backlighting. Briggs Street also has two breweries and a handful of boutique clothing spots, sporting goods stores and toy outlets. The Erie Farmers Market is open on Briggs Street each Thursday afternoon, featuring fresh produce, live music and crafts. Grocery spots like Safeway and King Soopers are located a few miles to the south.

Homes tend to sit on large lots with mature oak trees shading wide sidewalks. Roads are quiet, and street parking may be necessary as many properties don’t have attached garages.
