Eudora maintains an old town character on the Kansas River bank
Grain fields and orchards surround Eudora, a city about 10 miles east of Lawrence on the Kansas River. “It’s this little bedroom community, an extension of Lawrence, almost. There are plenty of places to eat, they have their own pool and an adorable little downtown area with all these boutiques,” says Realtor Emily Ferguson with Countrywide Realty, Inc., licensed for over 7 years. “Another cute thing about Eudora is it has a couple of newer subdivisions with new construction, but for the most part, it’s like the original town — full of charming, old, huge houses. It’s not one of those towns where you go in and you’re like, ‘How can you tell which house is yours?’ It’s very old school, like they’ve kept their history well."

It has great food and is one of those order-at-the-counter places. It’s a big hometown place,” Ferguson says. Older homes in the area include Minimal Traditional homes and Craftsman bungalows built between the 1880s and early 1950s near Main Street. Their home prices range from about $170,000 to $330,000. Many ranch-style homes, raised ranch and New Traditionals were built south of 10th Street afterward, some in subdivisions such as Shadow Ridge. These houses outside the historic area share a similar range of about $210,000 to $490,000. “People are banging the door down to live there because in De Soto, they’re putting in a giant Panasonic Energy plant. That’s going to bring thousands of jobs, so home values are getting higher,” Ferguson says.
