Plaza Drive is a sought-after street with a mix of home styles
Large oak trees grow on manicured lawns, often decorated with neat rows of shrubbery and floral bushes. Wide driveways lead to multicar garages. “Plaza Drive, in particular, is very sought after,” says Realtor Nikki Davis with F.C. Tucker Emge. “This street has a mix of old and new homes in a mix of styles. Most of the old homes have been renovated, while others have been torn down and the land used to build new.” Ranch styles and split levels are across the street from new traditional homes and Colonial Revivals. Prices for a single-family house can range from $150,000 to $575,000, increasing with size. Some condos are in the neighborhood, with a two-bedroom unit typically costing $150,000 to $215,000.Shopping centers, chains and local businesses surround Plaza Park
Plaza Park is a short drive from several big-box stores and chain restaurants along Lloyd Expressway. “You can find most anything to shop for or eat in the East Side shopping area, including a Sam’s Club and a Costco,” Davis says. Other major retailers include Walmart, Best Buy and Lowe’s. Eastland Mail is about 3 miles away, with over 100 stores and eateries. There are also several locally owned restaurants nearby, including La Campirana, which serves Mexican food. Friendship Diner’s menu includes classic homestyle food like catfish and Hot Brown. Residents can get groceries from the Fresh Market in the neighborhood.Students can attend Evansville schools like Plaza Park International Prep
As part of Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, students can start at Hebron Elementary School, which receives a B from Niche. Plaza Park International Prep Academy is a middle school that scores a B-minus. At the B-rated Harrison High School, students can enroll in the Randall T. Shepard Leadership Prep Academy. This four-year program focuses on American policies, law and social justice. The University of Evansville is about 4 miles away. Besides having over 75 undergraduate programs, there are 17 Division I athletic teams, including men’s and women’s basketball.Angel Mounds, Price Park and the local library offer nearby recreation
The neighborhood is near Angel Mounds State Historic Site, the site of a former Mississippian city with 11 earthen mounds. There is a hiking trail and interpretive center with exhibits on indigenous history, art and artifacts. Kayakers can also use the boat launch to access the Ohio River. Price Park is about 2 miles away and features a playground and soccer fields. Dig’ N Roll is a nearby indoor playground with a ball pit, obstacle course, splash pad and playhouse. While children are playing, adults can grab a coffee from the cafe or relax at one of the lounges. At the McCollough branch of the Evansville Public Library, programming includes monthly visits from a therapy dog, craft clubs and book clubs.Interstate 69 offers convenience to this car-dependent community
Most residents rely on cars to get around, although the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System manages a bus route in the area. Interstate 69 borders the neighborhood, which Davis says offers the “convenience of being able to hop on the bypass.” It leads about 8 miles south to the Kentucky state border and about 160 miles north to Indianapolis. Evansville Regional Airport is about a 10-mile drive and offers nonstop flights to eight destinations. Deaconess Gateway Hospital is about 1 mile away.
