Presidents is near Evansville restaurants, parks and highways
With street names like Washington, Adams and Taylor, it's clear where the Presidents neighborhood gets its name. Homes dating back a century are near some of the area's major thoroughfares, which makes it easy to access all the city’s amenities. Even with U.S. Route 41 bordering the neighborhood, most residents enjoy quiet days. Lorraine Park is within walking distance, and downtown Evansville is about 2 miles away, with locally owned restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues.
Older homes are available at affordable prices
Sidewalks line the neighborhood's streets, which are wide enough to allow street parking and two-way traffic. Elm trees, shrubbery and colorful gardens decorate the front of postage stamp lots. Bungalows comprise most of Presidents, with some ranch styles, Cape Cods and traditional houses scattered throughout. Almost all of the homes were built between the 1920s and 1950s. “The housing is pretty affordable,” says Sara Pillow, Realtor with F.C. Tucker Emerge and lifelong resident of Evansville. Prices range from $30,000 to $185,000 for multifamily and single-family homes, some of which are investment properties. While there is a chance of flooding, homes in Presidents are at a reduced risk because of the Ohio River Levee. Flood insurance is recommended but not required. There is also a relatively high risk of tornadoes; most homeowner insurance covers wind and storm damage.

Evansville's West Side Nut Club Fall Festival draws in large crowds
Over 200,000 people come to Evansville every October for the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival, which started in 1921. “Next to Mardi Gras, it’s supposed to be the second biggest street festival in the country,” Pillow says. USA Today named it the Best Fall Festival of 2024. The week-long event features a game of Tug of War, a pageant, carnival rides and a parade of lighthouses down Franklin Street. Nearly 140 food booths line the road, with options ranging from hot dogs to alligator dishes.
