Functions like its own rural town
Despite being considered a neighborhood in Everett, Lowell functions like its own rural town, especially since it was founded 30 years before the city was established. Located between Interstate 5 and the Snohomish River, the neighborhood has remained true to its 1860s roots with its historic homes and structures that reflect its former days in the milling industry. The Lowell Civic Association takes pride in its extensive history, often posting daily history snippets, and even published its own book "150 Years of Lowell History." Residents take pride in the tight-knit neighborhood’s historic feel.

Historic bungalows mixed with newer Craftsman
Most historic homes are found in the west of the neighborhood, while homes built in the 21st century are to the east. “The neighborhood has mostly classical, older homes built in the early 20th century,” Thorsen says. “Some houses have been beautifully remodeled; some homes are ideal for investment opportunities.” Bungalows and cottages are priced $350,000 to $650,000, while split-levels range between $500,000 to $800,000. Craftsman homes in the Riverfront community can go for $700,000 to $950,000. Despite being near the major highway, I-5, the bedroom community is much quieter. “They’ve built a concrete wall barrier along the edge of the highway,” says Colleen Thorsen, realtor at John L. Scott, who specializes in the Everett area. “The barrier does help reduce noise and I was surprised by how quiet it is over there because of that.”

Convenient to Downtown Everett and Snohomish
While there are no restaurants directly in the neighborhood, the nearby roads and highways provide easy access to shopping and dining. Kindred Kitchen is a smaller café that serves breakfast and lunch paired with espresso. Scuttlebutt Brewing serves craft beer with weekly tacos and trivia nights. South on I-5, Everett Mall Way has big box retailers like Target, Walmart and Trader Joe’s. Everett Mall also has clothing stores like Old Navy, Famous Footwear and Burlington. For groceries, there’s a Safeway. Residents can also explore Snohomish City’s downtown. “It’s further east, but there’s access through the Lowell-Snohomish Road,” Thorsen says. “Snohomish is a cute, little touristy town. It’s got lots of shops, vintage areas and bars. People often go antiquing there.” The walkable downtown overlooks the Snohomish River and includes many charming restaurants like Andy Fish House, for fresh seafood on an outdoor patio.
