Route 1, also known as South Dixie Highway, serves as the main thoroughfare in this area, traveling approximately 30 miles north into Downtown Miami and south toward Key Largo. Miami International Airport is a 30-mile drive away, as well. Miami-Dade County operates Metrobus Route 70, which travels from Cutler Bay to Florida City and has multiple stops in Modello. “Homestead Base is a nearby Air Force reserve; they do a lot of training out there, and they put on a show once a year,” Knapp says.
