Evergreen Heights and Estates
Outdoor recreation centered around Evergreen Lake
Residents enjoy immediate access to a wealth of outdoor pursuits. Evergreen Lake serves as a focal point of the community and offers fishing, paddleboarding and boating during warmer months, and ice skating in the winter. The Evergreen Lake Trail provides a path for walking and jogging around the water's edge. Nearby Alderfer-Three Sisters Park offers miles of hiking and mountain biking trails amid ponderosa pine and aspen forests, where wildlife such as deer, elk, and various bird species can be spotted. “We’re overly fortunate when it comes to parks in the area,” says Freadhoff. “I’d argue we have access to the best parks and state parks in all of Colorado, and that’s a huge part of why people move here also.” Those looking for a fun show on the weekends can head to the Evergreen Rodeo Association, a unique local attraction that draws visitors and rodeo professionals from across the country.Custom homes surrounded by mountain views
Evergreen Heights and Estates features a variety of custom-built homes that blend with the natural surroundings, lending the area what locals call a “mountain contemporary” style. Other styles include rustic log cabin-inspired builds and ranch-style homes. Many homes in the neighborhood have large decks and expansive windows. Lot sizes vary, though most homes sit on at least 2 acres. Home prices generally start at $650,000 for a ranch-style and reach as high as $1.8 million for a custom modern estate. Particularly large homes on significant acreage can exceed $2 million. “It’s classic mountain style,” says Freadhoff. “You can spot log cabins, A-frames and other vintage homes like that at different spots throughout the area, and it makes for a really fun drive.”Downtown Evergreen features local favorites
Evergreen's downtown area is just minutes away and features a variety of shops that lend the community a vintage, small-town feel. Black Fox Provisions has local artisan goods, while The Evergreen Clothing and Mercantile features apparel and unique souvenirs. For dining, favorites include Willow Creek Restaurant, which offers lakeside seating with American cuisine, and The Little Bear Saloon, known for its live music and rustic atmosphere. “The Keys is my favorite spot in the area,” says Freadhoff about Keys On the Green, a mountain lodge with golf course views, hearty comfort food and a full bar. For everyday needs, residents have access to grocery stores like King Soopers and Natural Grocers.Highly-rated schools in the Jefferson County School District
The Jefferson County School District serves families in Evergreen Heights and Estates. Elementary students typically attend Wilmot Elementary School, which earns an A-minus rating from Niche. Middle school students can move on to Evergreen Middle School, also rated A-minus. High school students attend Evergreen High School, which holds an A rating and is known for its athletic success, with recent championships in girls’ lacrosse, girls’ basketball, and girls’ soccer. “Jefferson County Schools are really highly thought of, and you have people coming to the area – even with open enrollment – just to be closer to these schools.”Get to the Mile High City in under an hour
While public transportation options are limited due to the nature of living in the mountains, nearby Highway 74 and Interstate 70 make commutes to Denver and other Front Range communities simple. Drivers can also utilize E470. The drive to downtown Denver typically takes about 40 minutes, depending on traffic and weather conditions. “We’re a bit of a bedroom community, in that most people living here are probably commuting to Denver for work,” says Freadhoff. “But that’s part of the appeal – getting to Denver quickly, but still being distanced from all the traffic and noise.” Residents should be prepared for mountain driving conditions, especially during winter when snow and ice affect roadways. The Denver International Airport is 55 miles from the neighborhood.
