Master-planned area with trendy houses and convenience
Located 3 miles from the Mamala Bay shores, Ewa Gentry is a census-designated area with several master-planned communities. Built by Gentry Homes, the area is usually called “Ewa” by locals. This community has modern houses known for being more budget-friendly than other island areas. “Gentry has built out the Ewa neighborhood. People move to Ewa Gentry because of the single-family homes and HOA management,” says Isaiah Cureton, owner and broker at Hawaii Real Estate Professionals. “Many people like the aesthetic look; they have greenery that’s well managed. They have the neighborhood pools.” Residents enjoy a coastal lifestyle, surrounded by several golf courses and palm trees, and live down the road from sandy beaches and clear waters. Shopping and transportation are also nearby in Kapolei. “Ewa is where everyone lives, and Kapolei is where people shop, and that’s only 10 to 15 minutes away,” Cureton says. The population of Ewa Gentry hovers around 25,000 people, according to the 2020 U.S. Census. Ewa Gentry also has a large military presence.

Contemporary homes on wider roads than the rest of the city
Ewa Gentry is made up of several master-planned subdivisions. “Ewa has a lot more breathing room. When Gentry bought the area, they built these wide roads whereas other neighborhoods are not as wide,” Cureton says. Condos and townhouses are north of Geiger Road. These are usually two to three-bedroom places with garages and walking distance to parks. Subdivisions like Sun Terra and Sandalwood offer single-family homes by the golf course. Ewa by Gentry has several community amenities, like a clubhouse and a swimming pool. These homes are usually contemporary properties with light color exteriors. The median price for a single-family home is $878,000, which is $520,000 less than the median price for Honolulu. The median price for townhouses and condos is $775,000 and $503,000, respectively. “People are friendly, and it’s neighborly; they do a parade every quarter,” Cureton says. “I always see kids selling things for football or Girl Scout Cookies.”

Neighbors walk around with Sabers Pride
The Hawaii Public Schools, also called the Hawaii Department of Education, earns an A-minus grade from Niche. Ewa Gentry is associated with the Leeward District, which serves the Campbell and Kapolei communities. Students will likely begin at Holomua Elementary, followed by Ewa Makai Middle and Campbell High, home of the Sabers. “People have a lot of pride in the local high school. You see people walking around in Sabers jerseys all the time,” Cureton says.
Downtown access through Interstate H-1
Most residents are likely to work in the downtown. Drivers can take Highway 76 or Fort Weaver Road north to connect to Interstate H-1. The busiest interstate in the state goes directly to Honolulu. “During the mornings, you can go into a separate lane for electric vehicles or if you have multiple people in the vehicle. They call those zipper lanes that go very fast,” Cureton says. “But they don’t open those lanes in the evening, so going home is harder around 2:30 is when traffic starts.” Kapolei Parkway travels east to west through Kapolei. Residents have a few public transportation options. Bus stops are spread throughout the development. The Kualaka’i East Kapolei Station is 3 miles away for those wanting to take the subway into the city. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is the nearest major airport offering several nonstop flights to east and west coast cities, including Los Angeles and New York City. The Queen’s Medical Center-West Oahu campus is north of the city for health services.
