A vibrant hub for the waterfront town of Fairfield
Fairfield Center is the dynamic core of Fairfield, a coastal Connecticut town known for its sandy beaches, well-rated school system and central location on the Gold Coast. Locals live off peaceful, residential streets, but many are within walking distance of the town’s commercial corridor. Post Road is a walkable stretch of restaurants and small businesses, where the community goes out to dinner or attends concerts at local venues. Students from Fairfield University, a private college located just north of the neighborhood, add youthful energy to the neighborhood.

Eateries and retailers on Post Road
Post Road is lined with a diverse mix of restaurants, stores and entertainment venues, all of which are housed in colonial-inspired buildings. “We have lots of different restaurants. I always say we’re too far to get to New York City to go out to eat, so all the good restaurants have to come to us,” says Pam Toner, a real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway New England Properties and longtime Fairfield County resident. In the morning, locals can grab an iced latte and muffin from Shearwater Coffee Bar or order an acai bowl from Playa Bowls. There are several pizzerias in the area, including Molto and Sophie’s Pizza Bar. For a more elevated dinner with cocktails, residents go to Malibu, a trendy, modern eatery serving rice bowls and tacos. Mecha Noodle Bar is another popular spot that serves pho, bao buns and boba tea. Community members buy groceries at Stop & Shop and apparel and home goods at retailers like Marshalls, Loft and Chico’s.

Fairfield Center hosts a couple of venues where community members gather for events. Bands frequently take the stage at The Warehouse at Fairfield Theater Company, a painted brick venue with an edgy, industrial vibe that can seat 640 audience members. Sacred Heart University purchased, renovated and reopened the Fairfield Community Theatre on Post Road, where locals can attend comedy shows, musical performances and film showings. The town of Fairfield also organizes seasonal events. “The Memorial Day parade is a big deal here. People will start reserving their spot on the route with lawn chairs on the Friday before the Monday parade,” Toner says. She says that the Independence Day fireworks display, which is lit from a barge on the Long Island Sound, is another highly anticipated event. Residents often watch the fireworks sparkle over the water from Penfield or Jennings Beach.
