A convenient, well-connected suburb in Fairfield
Fairfield Woods is an inland neighborhood in the coastal town of Fairfield where residents can find houses that are more affordable than properties closer to the Long Island Sound. True to its name, the neighborhood has tree-lined streets that give it a relaxed feel, but locals are only 5 miles from the town’s most popular beaches. Freshwater lakes are also nearby, and community members often hang out at the neighborhood library. The restaurants and shopping plazas on Black Rock Turnpike make errands convenient, and parents don’t have to leave the neighborhood to take their kids to school, as A-rated public schools are right in the neighborhood.
Fairfield Woods provides all the shopping and dining options residents could need.
The Fairfield Woods Branch Library serves the neighborhood in Brooklawn-St. Vincent.

Swimming on both the Long Island Sound and Lake Mohegan
Fairfield Woods has a couple of sports fields where kids practice, like the baseball diamonds at Park Square and the soccer fields at Park Kunsua. There are other outdoor spaces a few miles from the neighborhood. “Of course we have our beaches, but we have lakes too, so people use both,” says Pam Toner, a real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway New England Properties and longtime Fairfield County resident. The Lake Mohegan Recreation Area has wooded walking trails that wind around a freshwater lake. Anglers go fishing and neighbors swim at the beach during the summer, but there’s also a splash pad where children can play. Boating isn’t allowed on the lake, but most prefer to launch watercraft on the Long Island Sound since the coast is only 5 miles south. Larger boats dock at the Fairfield Marina, while Jennings Beach has racks filled with catamarans, kayaks and canoes. The beach is the largest in town and a popular place to go swimming or relax on the sandy shores.
End your day with a hike or a swim at Lake Mohegan in Stratfield Village.
Jennings Beach is located at 880 South Benson Road in Fairfield, CT.

Stores and restaurants along Black Rock Turnpike
Regional chains and locally owned restaurants can be found along Black Rock Turnpike. In the morning, residents can pick up breakfast sandwiches and coffee from Country Cow Deli. Primo Pizza, a casual diner that serves wings, Italian subs and pizza, is a popular lunch spot in the neighborhood. There’s a steady supply of freshly-rolled sushi on the conveyor belt at Shumi Revolving Sushi, and Little Pub Fairfield is a cozy date night spot where diners enjoy craft beer and cocktails by a crackling fireplace. Supermarkets along the same turnpike, like Trader Joe’s and ShopRite, make grocery shopping convenient. Locals can also shop for apparel and home goods at national stores like Gap, Old Navy and T.J. Maxx.
The Country Cow Deli has a revolving door of customers from morning to later afternoon.

Local library events and town-wide celebrations
The Fairfield Woods Branch Library has frequent events where community members can gather. Parents take their kids to crafting and story hours, and adults meet for board game nights, educational programs and their own craft clubs. The neighborhood also joins greater Fairfield for town-wide events downtown, like the Memorial Day parade down Old Post Road. There’s also the holiday tree and menorah lighting in December, a winter celebration with local food trucks, festive music and carriage rides.
Nearby commuter trains and highways to New Haven and NYC
Some people living near the center of the neighborhood may be able to walk to the gathering places in the middle of Fairfield Woods, like Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, the elementary and middle school, and the local library branch. However, most rely on cars to get around town and run errands. Many residents also travel out of town for work. “I think Fairfield is around the furthest north that a lot of people who commute to New York regularly will consider,” Toner says. “But we also have a lot of doctors who work at Yale in New Haven, or employees who work at ESPN and commute to Southbury.” People usually opt for the Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven line, which they can board at the Fairfield Station, about 4 miles south. The train takes about 45 minutes to go to New Haven and about 90 minutes to get to New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. The on-ramp for Interstate 95 is also a few miles from the neighborhood for those who need to drive to New Haven or New York City, and state routes lead 25 miles north to Southbury.
i95 is a few minutes from Fairfield Woods and provided easy north and south access.
