Suburb just outside Akron

About 9 miles northwest of Akron, Fairlawn has maintained its small-town allure while offering a variety of housing options, dozens of shops and restaurants, a large mall and two highly-rated public school systems. Fairlawn is also home to several parks where residents can relax in nature or gather with friends and family for local events.

Single-family homes with spacious yards

Fairlawn offers a diverse selection of single-family homes, from small ranch styles to luxurious mansions. "The median price for homes is about $265,000," says Larry Triola, Realtor with Howard Hanna Real Estate Service. "There are a lot of new homes being constructed, though, so the price is skewing up." Ranch-style and split-level homes are commonly fixed on quarter-to-half-acre lots, ranging from $250,000 to $500,000. Other areas of Fairlawn feature newer housing developments with large, four-to-five-bedroom Craftsman-style homes ranging from $600,000 to $800,000. Then there are exquisite mansions on acres of land selling for anywhere from $900,000 to $3 million. It's important to keep an eye on the inventory as "houses that go on the market are usually sold in five to seven days," according to Triola.

Two highly-rated school districts

Fairlawn is served by the Copley-Fairlawn School District and the Revere Local School District. Students of Copley-Fairlawn may attend Herberich Primary Elementary School, graded an A by Niche and ranked the third-best elementary school in Summit County. They'll go on to A-graded Copley-Fairlawn Middle and A-minus-graded Copley High. Students of Revere may attend Bath Elementary and Revere Middle, both of which get an A grade. They'll finish their degrees at A-minus-graded Revere High. Students at both high schools have the opportunity to earn college credits from the University of Akron.

Retailers and restaurants on Route 18

Route 18 is Fairlawn's main thoroughfare, bustling with shopping centers, a mall and plenty of restaurants. Dozens of big box retailers are available for everyday shopping needs. Meanwhile, locals can shop from nearly 100 brands at Summit Mall. The mall's food court gives shoppers a place to eat and rest before hitting the stores again. A wide variety of restaurants line Route 18. Hungry locals can stop by Ohio chains like Melt for gourmet grilled cheese and Winking Lizard for wings, beer and sports. There are also several local hot spots like Continental Cuisine, a popular spot for Mediterranean dishes, and Café Arnone, an authentic Italian café famous for its gelato.

Annual events at Bicentennial Park

Residents look forward to annual events hosted by Copley Township, including the Copley Car Show and Heritage Days, which features a community art exhibition and a 5K race. There are also tons of holiday celebrations, such as a Memorial Day parade, the annual Yule tree lighting and Fourth of July fireworks at Bicentennial Park, the city's main event and entertainment space.

Tons of parks in and around Fairlawn

When not hosting a community event, Bicentennial Park offers a peaceful space for locals to relax in a gazebo, enjoy lunch at a picnic table along the paved walkways, and pay their respects at the veterans memorial. Nature enthusiasts enjoy visiting O'Neil Woods Metro Park to walk the two-mile, pet-friendly Deer Run Trail that surrounds what was once a farm with an old barn still standing. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is also just 4 miles away, with more than 125 miles of trails to explore.
