Bennett is laid out with neatly planned subdivisions branching off the main roads. Patches of old-growth pines break up the flat prairie that stretches out to the south. Special assessments help fund local infrastructure in Fargo. "They are a charge outside of your usual property taxes that pay for the infrastructure of a newer development. "Sewer, sidewalks, parks and things like that," Wall says. "The more high-priced the homes, typically the higher the special assessments are." He adds that if you're buying a home in a more established area like Bennett, your special assessment costs will be lower than in a newer or brand-new community.
