Bluemont Lakes
Neighborhood in Fargo, North Dakota
Cass County 58103
Lakefront homes in the Great Plains
While apartments are located around the neighborhood's borders, townhouses and single-family homes circle the lakes and make up the majority of housing options here. Most homes feature small backyards—few properties in the neighborhood are larger than a quarter acre. Single-family homes come with oversized garages for multiple vehicles or for storing winter gear. Cul-de-sacs offer the ideal spots to set up basketball hoops or street hockey nets for neighborhood pick-up games, while sidewalks and walking paths bring residents out to get their steps in or walk their dogs. Condo units offer entry-level pricing, selling for between $115,000 and $350,000, while twin-style homes go for between $220,000 and $350,000. Single-family styles, usually ramblers or split-level homes, can go for between $250,000 to upwards of $600,000.Fargo’s schools get good ratings across the board
“There’s a brand new school on the south end of the neighborhood,” says Schimke, speaking of Ed Clapp Elementary School, which opened in 2015. “It’s very walkable, it’s one of the biggest draws of the neighborhood.” Clapp receives a C-plus from Niche. From there, students will split in different directions for junior high. Some will attend Carl Ben Eielson Middle School before heading to Fargo South High School, which are graded a B-minus and B, respectively. While others will follow the path to Discovery Middle School before attending Fargo Davies High School, both of which earn an A-minus grade from Niche. Both South and Davies are rated in the Top 5 in the state for college prep, while Davies is rated as the best high school for athletes in the Fargo area. Tucked in at the top end of the neighborhood, Fargo Baptist Church is one of the largest churches in the area. It is also home to Master’s Baptist College, a tuition-free school that prepares its graduates for missionary work across the globe.HOA helps to keep uniformity and a comprehensive community appearance
It's important to note that Bluemont Lakes has a comprehensive homeowners association: the Bluemont Lakes Community Service Association, that enforces rules and covenants within the community. This is certainly a consideration for potential home buyers in the neighborhood, as “They’re very specific about how people live in the neighborhood – they don’t allow AirBNBs,” says Schimke. “There’s a rule about no fences, which is a tough one for families looking to buy into the neighborhood that have small kids. They want to keep what that lakeshore looks like and keep the integrity and the beauty of the neighborhood.” The HOA comes with a monthly fee and additional guidelines beyond the fence and AirBNB clauses, but serves to maintain the community vision of its residents.Green space for getting outdoors, right in the backyard
Behind the elementary school, Ed Clapp Park provides space for kids to enjoy, centered around a playground. Residents note that the playground is kept clean and that it also provides access to the soccer fields behind the school. In the northeastern corner, Woodbury Park features a basketball court and a playground, along with a walking trail. However, the freeway noise carries into the park, as well as to the homes on either side of it.Convenient shopping centers offer bar and grille favorites
In the neighborhood's southeastern corner, First Center South and Southpointe Mall bring together dining and shopping in an accessible, walkable commercial spot. Family Fare Supermarket is a convenient stop, where much of the neighborhood gets their groceries. Boppa’s Bagels are made fresh daily and are available by the dozen or can serve as the building blocks for the restaurant's breakfast and deli sandwiches. Fairly new to the neighborhood, Double Down Bar Grill and Casino has tv screens as far as the eye can see, broadcasting local and national sports alongside its standard menu of American pub favorites. Schimke also notes that Doolittes Woodfire Grill is a popular neighborhood gathering spot for woodfired rotisserie meals.Keeping true to the Fargo idea of “15 minutes to anywhere”
Bike trails and plenty of sidewalks mean that residents can walk or bike to nearby retail if they prefer. However, most residents have cars and use their two- and three-stall garages to house them alongside 4-wheel drive SUVs. A handful of MAT bus stops on the bottom end of the neighborhood provide public transport around the region. The convenience of major routes makes it easy to get to places like Sanford Medical Center, generally a 10-minute drive, or into Downtown Fargo, usually less than a 15-minute drive. “We have a very strong healthcare and tech job market that brings a lot of people in,” says Schimke, who lived just outside the neighborhood until recently. “Microsoft has a gigantic office here.” That office is less than 3 miles from the neighborhood, and about a 10 minute drive even at some of the busiest times. Hector International Airport offers regional connecting and international flights, about 8 miles north. One of the biggest fairs in the region
As with many of the suburban neighborhoods that have been part of Fargo’s growth, most Bluemont Lakes residents head into the heart of Fargo for annual festivities. “There’s a big county fair,” says Bruce Johnson, Broker and Owner of RE/MAX Realty 1, referring to the Red River Valley Fair, which spans three weekends from late June through mid-July. Along with midway rides and shows, state fair foods and games, it also features national rock, country and comedy acts. “And we’ve got the Fargo Force hockey, a feeder system for pro hockey,” says Johnson – the Force plays in Scheels Arena, only 3 miles west of Bluemont, making the games a fun family activity.
