Centennial
Neighborhood in Fargo, North Dakota
Cass County 58104
From new builds to established estates
A wide range of housing options makes Centennial a desirable neighborhood, with a variety of price points. Along the numbered avenues, prospective buyers will find ramblers and bi-levels from the late 90s clad in vinyl with stone accents. Forming neat lines along fenced-in lots--roughly a quarter acre in size--taller elms and maples, along with picnic tables and small pools, dot the community's backyards. In secluded pockets throughout the neighborhood, communities within the community – with names like Timber Creek, Meadow Creek and Oak Creek – feature larger contemporary homes encompassed by mature groves of trees for privacy. Open lots, ranging from $95,000 to $145,000, are available for buyers to build on but come with caveats, including specified builders. Getting on schedule with these builders can be difficult, as Mary Schimke, Realtor with Archer Real Estate Services says, “We’re still growing, we have a lot of new homes going up, we’re down in building permits for the year but builders are still booking out a year ahead of time.” Ramblers and bi-levels on the avenues generally sell for between $325,000 and $550,000, although select newer custom homes can reach as high as $650,000. In the smaller named subdivisions, the homes commonly go for between $600,000 and $700,000.A park for every subdivision pushes green space goals for Fargo
Seven parks are scattered across Centennial, many of them linked by a walking and biking trail that meanders through the neighborhood and leads to the surrounding communities. The largest, Timber Creek Park, features a play area and basketball court in addition to the green space provided. Tucked into the top end of the community, Fox Run Park also has a basketball court and playground, along with a small soccer field for neighborhood pick-up games. Both Oak Creek and Meadow Creek Park are green spaces adjacent to the subdivisions they are named after – part of the Fargo Parks District’s efforts to build parks in every new subdivision, as indicated by Tony Schmitt, the Parks Director.Superior Fargo schools succeed in athletics and academics
Centennial Elementary School sits in the neighborhood's northeast corner, and many students can easily walk or bike to school. Centennial receives a B from Niche, while nearby Discovery Middle School receives an A-minus. Fargo Davies High School, only 3 miles south of the neighborhood, also gets an A-minus and is rated as one of the top high schools for academics and athletics alike. Niche rates it second for college prep and third for athletes in the entire state of North Dakota. Sacred Heart Middle School and Shanley High School offer Catholic secondary school education on the same campus just south of the neighborhood.Centennial’s location fits Fargo’s ideal of 15 minutes to everywhere
The walking and biking path that links Centennial and the surrounding neighborhoods is great for recreation but not for daily needs. There is no public transit available throughout the neighborhood so residents are car-dependent. With I-29 to the west, Centennial offers fast travel throughout the Fargo-Moorhead region. Downtown Fargo is a 6-mile trip, while Hector International Airport is roughly 10 miles north. Sanford Medical Center is just under 5 miles to the northwest, providing jobs and 24-hour emergency care; all of these are usually a 15-minute drive or less. The Microsoft campus, along with mixed commercial and industrial businesses, is only a mile from most points in the neighborhood, offering jobs with a minimal commute.Downtown and West Fargo provide events
Centralized spaces in Downtown and West Fargo draw the residents of Centennial out of the neighborhood for most events. Downtown and the FargoDome get the majority of events, ranging from the Midwest Kid Fest in Island Park every June to Happy Harry’s RibFest, a four-day event featuring national recording artists and national award-winning rib cookers, who come in from as far as Texas, South Carolina and Pennsylvania to show off their barbecued ribs. A little further away in West Fargo, the Red River Valley Fair is the largest in the region, taking place over three weekends in late June and early July.A cup of coffee to kick start the day
Centennial residents can start their day with a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich from nearby Red River Coffee, Fargo’s oldest local coffee shop under its fourth generation of woman ownership. Plaza Azteca offers Tex-Mex favorites and is recognized for using fresh ingredients and table-side guacamole preparation. American bar and grille spots are common across Fargo suburbs, but the closest one to Centennial comes with something unique. Frank’s Lounge features the bright pink pussycat sign that used to grace Downtown’s Pink Pussycat Lounge, and diners can bask in its glow while enjoying appetizers and burgers, along with a local craft beer from the taps. Jen’s Bakery has developed into a local favorite for breads and cookies, while Cash Wise Foods Grocery, Aldi, and a Walmart Supercenter provide groceries and general household needs. Just north of the community, Fleet Farm, a regional general store that’s been serving the upper Midwest since 1955, provides general home goods.Indoor and outdoor fun
“Now we have Kingpinz and Suite Shots indoor golf!” says Budhiraja, highlighting the area's social indoor and outdoor activities. These entertainment centers cater to all age groups, going above and beyond the usual driving range and bowling lane experiences with the modern social aspect highlighted. For residents wanting a more traditional golf experience, Rose Creek Golf Course – one of five public courses maintained by the city – is just east of the neighborhood.
