Golfing against the backdrop of the Red River
While the homes in Lincoln may be adjacent to the pre-eminent private golf course in Fargo, it’s not a typical golfing community. “The Fargo Country Club is over 100 years old. It’s a well-established type of neighborhood, but it’s not a country club neighborhood,” says Donna Heck, Concierge Strategist for the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo Chamber of Commerce. “The country club was built, and the neighborhood was built around it. So they’re not cookie-cutter houses.” Instead, Lincoln blends mid-century residential homes with shopping and dining, top schools and some extremely quiet neighbors–the historic Riverside Cemetery Association. With grave sites dating back to 1878, only seven years after the town was officially founded, the cemetery provides a glimpse into the past as well as a final resting place for many of the area's former founders and leaders. This all comes with convenient access to Interstate 94, which runs east and west throughout the region.
60s suburbia shines in Fargo’s south
A mix of ramblers, split-level and bi-level homes dates back to the late 1960s, and many have undergone updates and upgrades over the years. Deep eaves provide protected entryways to keep snow and ice out, with hints of traditional and Colonial designs wrapped in vinyl or steel siding. One- and two-car garages and concrete driveways wide enough for two cars are standard here, and some even feature additional concrete pad space for parking boats or trailers. The streetscape blends features towering elms and maple trees which shade the quiet side streets. Condos along the edges of the neighborhood provide an entry point, selling for $150,000 to $250,000; while single-family homes sell for between $250,000 and $550,000. Properties that back up to the country club often command a higher premium. Despite having an average home value that is consistently above average for the Fargo metro, homes move quickly in Lincoln, selling on average a week or two faster than the national average.

Schools succeed in academics and athletics
Students start their education in the public pipeline at Lincoln Elementary, which for many students in the neighborhood is a walk of only a block or two – some only need to walk out of their backyard and across a field. Niche rated the school with a B-minus, and gave the same grade to Carl Ben Eielson Middle School. Students will finish up their secondary schooling at South High School, which earns a B and has fielded several championship-winning sports teams, including football and tennis, in recent years. Just across I-94, Nativity Elementary School is part of the St. John Paul II Catholic Schools system – where students will move up to Sacred Heart Middle and Shanley High School to finish their private education. Oak Grove Lutheran is another private option, with the elementary school in South Fargo and Oak Grove Lutheran's North Campus near the downtown, for its secondary students.
Fargo Country Club stretches along the riverside
Established in 1898, the Fargo Country Club features an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole executive Par-3 course. It was the first golf club in North Dakota and has been continuously active since its opening. In 2022, Golfweek named the 18-hole course the second-best private course in North Dakota. More than just golf, membership includes access to a private swimming pool, a tennis program with an on-site pro and five event spaces. The club also hosts social events for members throughout the year.

A park attached to the elementary school provides play opportunities
Lincoln Park is adjacent to the elementary school and is open to the public. It has a basketball court, ball fields, a soccer field, green spaces and a spacious playground. There’s also an ice rink and warming house for the winter. “The park district will flood ice rinks so people can play pick-up hockey games, broomball, just do free skate,” says Heck. “We have broomball leagues that go into adulthood, or pick-up hockey games that neighborhood kids and adults play, and then just free skate.”
A good mix of walking and biking opportunities
Set at the intersection of University Drive and I-94, Lincoln is a convenient neighborhood for commuters who want to keep their commutes short. “No matter where you live, you can get to work in 16 to 18 minutes,” says Heck. Still, the community has its fair share of walkers and bikers, both for recreation as well as getting around for daily errands. Public transit is lacking, with only a few MATBUS Route 14 stops on University Drive. Downtown Fargo is roughly 4 miles north, a 10-minute drive most days, while Hector International Airport is roughly 10 to 15 minutes via Interstate 29, which helps to shorten the 7-mile drive. Essentia Health, one of the larger employers in Fargo and a 24-hour emergency care center, is a little over 2 miles away and usually a drive of under 10 minutes.

Established businesses and dining options
Residents can take a morning stroll to Beans Coffee Bar on 26th and University for a cup of coffee before going about their day. If they want a full meal, Randy’s University Diner, a Fargo staple since 1980, opens at six o’clock daily. Randy’s is known for its hearty breakfast platters and Midwest diner favorites like liver and onions or chicken fried steak for lunch and dinner. Small commercial and medical offices line University Drive. Burggraf’s Ace Hardware provides home maintenance needs, while across the street, Baker Garden and Gift has been beautifying Fargo with houseplants and outdoor plants since 1957. There are two nearby Hornbacher’s, one just south of the neighborhood and the other a few blocks north, making it convenient to stop for groceries on the commute home from either direction.

Events in the heart of town
With limited open space, there isn’t much in the way of events in Lincoln itself, although Heck notes that they do host intermittent block parties throughout the year, put on by residents. Two events are marked on nearly every resident’s calendar – the Red River Valley Fair and the Downtown Fargo Street Fair. The street fair focuses on hyper-local artisans and vendors, along with food and entertainment, over a three-day weekend. The Red River Valley Fair draws folks from across the region, spanning three weekends with rides, food, a glimmering midway and nationally touring musicians. Regular events include RedHawks baseball in the summer, Fargo Force hockey in the winter, and the downtown Red River Market that features local producers on Saturdays, running from July through October.
