Willow Park
Neighborhood in Fargo, North Dakota
Cass County 58103
Modern traditional and Craftsman cues come together
Most of the housing in Willow Park consists of rental apartments and townhomes. A section of contemporary twin homes and a handful of single-family homes can also be found in the southwestern corner. Vinyl siding and stone accents highlight the mix of Traditional and Craftsman design cues, which combine to create a look that is familiar across most developments in Fargo built in the early 2000s. Twin homes have two-stall garages, while single-family homes often have three- or even four-stall garages. Nearly every home features a fenced backyard. Twin homes sell for between $220,000 and $280,000, while single-family bi-levels sell for between $300,000 and $450,000. Those visiting for the first time will notice the numerous interior garage outlets and exterior electrical outlets in rentals and homes. “It’s pretty standard that you plug in your car here in the winter, all the time,” says Jenny Buhr, Realtor with Trilogy Real Estate and President of Doorsteps Midwest. “The parking spaces, they have posts with electrical outlets on them so you can plug in your car in the winter.” These outlets allow engine block heaters to keep engines at a healthy temperature to ensure they start when needed.Out-of-this-world dining at Space Aliens
The American bar and grille is ubiquitous across Fargo – “We have a lot of bars because we’ve got the long winter,” says Poonam Budhiraja, Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Advantage One. Perhaps the most unique among them is the Space Aliens Grill and Bar, where diners sit beneath a domed ceiling displaying a view of outer space, surrounded by alien sculptures, space- and alien-themed artwork and space-themed arcade games. There are also plenty of space-themed dishes, but perhaps their most out-of-this-world dish is their ribs, which won America’s Best Ribs at the National Bar-B-Que Convention Cook-off. Fargoans wanting to smoke some ribs at home can pick up ingredients at Meats by John and Wayne, a hometown butcher offering game processing and serving the region since 2004. Only a mile east, West Acres Mall is the largest shopping mall in the state, home to 100 retailers and services, local art and a museum dedicated to hometown hero Roger Maris, famed MLB right fielder of the 1960s. Home Depot is within the neighborhood for residents' home care and maintenance needs, along with Scheels for sporting goods. Along 13th Street, grocery stops including Family Fare, Natural Grocers and ALDI, mixed in with a Walmart Supercenter, Lowe’s Hardware and other national brands.Walking and public transportation make it easy to get around
Interstate 94 runs along the neighborhood's southern edge, with easy access from 45th Street South. The roadway offers a fast route into Downtown Fargo, Moorhead or the plains to the west. Taking 45th also puts Sanford Medical Center – the largest medical center in the region and one of the largest job providers in Fargo – within a 5-minute drive, less than 2 miles away. Downtown Fargo is also roughly 5 miles away, while North Dakota State University and Hector International Airport are around 6 miles away. All three are within 10 to 15 minutes by car. MATBUS Routes 20 and 24 are accessible from the neighborhood, and it is quite walkable thanks to a comprehensive network of wide sidewalks.Parks for playing and relaxing
From the quiet water views and occasional waterfowl at Caroline Ruby Vetter Duck Pond to the fields of Willow Park to the accessible playground of Maplewood Park and Activity Center, Willow Park residents are spoiled for choice when it comes to getting outside. Willow Park itself has basketball courts, a playground and a multipurpose field. Maplewood is only a 10-minute walk for many residents and in addition to the multisensory playground, it has an obstacle course for teens and adults and a hockey rink that operates as a quartet of pickleball courts in the summer.Events across Fargo bring residents together
As a blended neighborhood with no real space for events, residents in Willow Park hop in the car to head to the Lights to catch pro bull riding and nationally touring musicians or up to West Fargo for the Red River Valley Fair. “It’s a close-knit and easily accessible city; most larger events attract people from all over the community,” says Danni Melquist, Director of Marketing for Visit Fargo-Moorhead. Aside from the weekly Red River Market in the summers, she points to the Downtown Fargo Street Fair, August’s Fargo PRIDE festivities, and winter’s Frostival as major events that bring community members together.West Fargo schools offer sports and arts
Children in the public school system in Willow Park may start at the namesake Willow Park Elementary School or Eastwood Elementary School, which earn a C-plus and a B-minus from Niche, respectively. Students come together at Cheney Middle School and are rated a B before heading to West Fargo High School, which also earns a B from Niche. West Fargo is known for its sports – including a 2024 State Class A boys’ swimming championship and the 2024 State Class A Cheer championship – but has also won the state championship for One Act Plays as recently as 2018. Parents looking for private options for their children have Oak Grove Lutheran and St. John Paul II Catholic schools nearby. Oak Grove’s elementary campus is a mile southwest, while Trinity Elementary School, one of three in the St. John’s system, is less than 2 miles southwest.Crime
Willow Park receives a Crime Score of 9 on the CAP Index, including a 10 for burglary, both of which are higher than the national average of 4.
