Rural Cedar Creek and Fayetteville’s historic downtown
Set on the outskirts of Fayetteville in Cumberland County, Cedar Creek is a semi-rural community with little else but spacious ranch-style homes on large lots. Cedar Creek is about 10 miles from downtown Fayettville, home to a variety of historical sites and museums, as well as extensive shopping, dining and other activities. One of the largest U.S. military bases in the world, Fort Bragg is about 22 miles away, and the sense of safety that comes from that proximity is reflected in the area’s low CAP index crime score of 2 out of 10; lower than the national average. “A lot of people here work at Fort Bragg,” says Logan Geddie, a local Realtor with Coldwell Banker who specializes in the greater Fayetteville area that includes Cedar Creek. "It mainly attracts families seeking affordability and starter homes for Fayetteville’s commuter access."
Ranch-style homes and large lots in Cedar Creek
Ranch-style and manufactured homes here were mostly built in the early 1990s, set on large, open lots that often span between one or two acres. These older homes typically have brick exteriors and carports. Newer homes built in the 2020s often reflect New Traditional styles. The area has a distinctly rural feel, with few sidewalks and homes spaced far apart, making it appealing for those who prefer open space over dense neighborhoods. Prices typically range from $200,000 to $600,000; newer, two-story homes tend to be on the higher end of the price spectrum, while the older manufactured and ranch-style homes occupy the lower end.
Students can attend Cumberland County public schools
Local kids can start school at Seabrook Elementary, which earns a B-minus from Niche, then continue on to the B-rated Mac Williams Middle. Cape Fear High earns a B-plus. The high school offers students opportunities to pursue a specialized academic choice program in the Academy of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. The program emphasizes hands-on science and the use of innovative technologies in preparation for an agricultural-related career.
Jones Lake State Park and Carvers Creek recreation
While there are no public open green spaces or designated parks within Cedar Creek, About 25 miles away, Jones Lake State Park offers hiking trails, swimming, fishing and boating on both Jones Lake and Salters Lake, a pair of what scientists call Carolina bay lakes. The term is used to describe a water-filled depression that occurs along the Atlantic coastline and whose origins have yet to be explained. Carvers Creek State Park features pine forests, multi-use trails and the historic Rockefeller House, the former home of Olympic gold medalist James Stillman Rockefeller. The house is currently undergoing renovations, and the North Carolina Division of Parks & Recreation hopes to open it as a community center at some point in the future. About 40 miles south of Cedar Creek, Singletary Lake State Park provides peaceful walking trails and opportunities for camping, swimming, fishing and paddling.
Shopping at Carlie C’s IGA and dining in downtown Fayetteville
Carlie C’s IGA is the nearby spot for groceries. Along Cedar Creek Road, residents can find fast-casual stops like Waffle House and Wendy's alongside sit-down chains like Cracker Barrel and Ruby Tuesday. Downtown Fayetteville offers a walkable mix of shopping and dining roughly 11 miles from Cedar Creek, with options ranging from sustainable fashion at Riffraff to bar bites at Feed and Folly to fresh bouquets from Meus Floral. For dinner, local favorites include Hugo’s, known for its burgers and homemade fries, Blue Moon Cafe for casual American fare and Antonella’s Italian Ristorante for classic Italian cuisine.
Amtrak and Fayetteville Regional Airport
Cedar Creek Road (North Carolina 53) is the main thoroughfare here, leading to downtown Fayetteville, about 11 miles away. Interstate 95 intersects NC-53 and leads to Raleigh, about 70 miles north. Most residents get around by car, though Amtrak services the Fayetteville station off Hay Street, offering service on both the Palmetto and Silver Meteor routes. The FAST Center is the central hub for Fayetteville’s local bus options, linking 17 fixed routes. Travelers can catch flights at the Fayetteville Regional Airport, just 5 miles south of downtown.
