Douglas Byrd is about 11 miles from Fort Bragg, a prominent United States Army installation on the western outskirts of Fayetteville where 55,000 military personnel and about 12,000 civilians work.

The neighborhood includes major highways, like U.S. Route 401, which stretches east-west and leads downtown. From Interstate 95, drivers can enter the neighborhood via Exit 56. “Fayetteville is a decent-sized place, but you can get anywhere in 20 to 30 minutes,” Evans says. Douglas Byrd is largely car-dependent, but Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) buses also service the area.
