Home to 29,000 residents, Douglas Byrd is a sprawling neighborhood on the south side of Fayetteville. Subdivisions are broken up by a railroad track and several highways. Still, the tree-covered and quiet residential streets give the neighborhood a peaceful, suburban vibe. “Douglas Byrd has plenty of shopping, and I don’t think the crime is really high,” says Barbara Evans, a broker at eXp Realty who sells in the neighborhood. The neighborhood’s overall CAP Index crime score is 5 out of 10, slightly higher than the national figure of 4. Douglas Byrd is about 11 miles from Fort Bragg, a prominent United States Army installation on the western outskirts of Fayetteville where 55,000 military personnel and about 12,000 civilians work.
