Centrally located suburban community in northern Federal Way
Laurelwood is a residential neighborhood, conveniently located about 2 miles north of Federal Way, where many homes are a quick walk or drive from quality schools and commerce. Access to major highways connects commuters to downtown Tacoma, about 15 miles south, and downtown Seattle, roughly 21 miles north. “It’s a nice neighborhood, real consistent with its homes, and it has sidewalks for walking,” says Realtor Diane Joslin with Keller Williams Greater Seattle, who has about 30 years of experience. “You’re also not too far from the freeway and Interstate 5.”
Laurelwood is tucked into a residential pocket of Federal Way, but amenities are walkable.

Subdivisions of single-family homes and apartments
Laurelwood’s residential landscape consists of multiple cul-de-sacs lined with single-family homes that have manicured lawns and driveways. Ranch-style homes, split levels and bi-levels built between the 1960s and 1970s are common. These houses span 1,100 to 1,800 square feet and cost $475,000 to $750,000. The Heritage Woods subdivision has New Traditional homes built in the early 2000s. Many of these properties share Craftsman features like multiple pointed roofs and stone accents. Prices range from $700,000 to $825,000 for houses that are 2,000 to 3,500 square feet. “The homes there are a bit newer, larger and well-built,” Joslin says. “They’re moderately priced too.”
A handful of apartment complexes in the area have units for $1,200 to $1,800 a month, depending on the number of bedrooms. As such, about half the neighborhood rents, while the other half owns their property.
Split-level homes are by far the most common architectual style in Laurelwood.
