Homes in classic New England styles
Homes in Southside Fitchburg sit on green yards along cracked, bumpy roads. Like much of the city, the neighborhood is hilly. About half of the residents in Southside Fitchburg rent, while the other half own their homes. Bungalows, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals often line the same streets as multifamily properties in fading pastel colors. Potential homebuyers can find single-family homes for between $220,000 and $620,000, depending on the size, age and condition. Investors wanting to purchase a multifamily building can find them for between $375,000 and $600,000.Getting around Southside Fitchburg

The 5-mile Twin Cities Rail Trail connects Fitchburg to Leominster and is popular with walkers and bikers. A Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority station is nearby, leading riders about 60 miles east to Boston. The trip usually takes about two hours. Cormier mentions that when people want to fly, they head to the Boston Logan International Airport. “It’s the closest airport that provides the most amount of flights,” she says.Wandering Coggshall Park, picking pumpkins at Hollis Hills Farm
Coggshall Park, just south of the neighborhood, spans 250 acres. Pine trees surround the central Mirror Lake, where geese swim in the water and walkers stroll paved paths beside it. A red-topped gazebo appears to float on the lake, and a playground and softball field offer places to get active. The nearby Fitchburg Art Museum – or FAM – offers an indoor, contemplative stroll. Visitors can wander through the museum's rotating and permanent exhibits, including Egyptian artifacts and a gallery dedicated to the museum’s founder and Fitchburg local, Eleanor Norcross. North of the neighborhood, Hollis Hills Farm is a popular weekend excursion at all times of year. “It’s funny that nowadays a farm is used for entertainment and not for necessity,” Cormier says. In the fall, folks pick pumpkins, while live music floats through the air, and berries grow from the bushes in the summer. For a weekend of family fun, the Great Wolf Lodge, a waterpark and hotel, is about 5 miles southwest of the neighborhood.Fresh produce at the summer farmer's market
The city of Fitchburg hosts numerous community events throughout the year. From June to October, local vendors sell produce and other goods at the Fitchburg Farmer’s Market, which is held every third Thursday at the Fitchburg Art Museum and every second Saturday in downtown Fitchburg’s historic Upper Common. Kids visit the businesses along Main Street for the Trick or Treat on Main Street event every year. Another popular event is the Santa Parade and Holiday Tree Lighting in December.Everyday amenities and local eateries
Clustered strip malls in the southwestern part of the neighborhood offer everyday amenities like a CVS pharmacy, a Cumberland Farms convenience store, Family Dollar, Aubuchon Hardware, Dunkin’ and Park Hill Pizza. Just north of Southside Fitchburg, the Central Plaza strip mall has a Market Basket grocery store, Crunch Fitness gym and more. The rows of shops and restaurants in downtown Fitchburg are about a mile north of the neighborhood. Here, locals can eat at restaurants like Dario’s Ristorante, an upscale Italian eatery; Tacos Tequila Mexican Cocina, with large portions and jumbo margaritas; or Rise & Grind Café, a popular breakfast spot.Advanced courses at Fitchburg High, nearby Fitchburg State
