Beecher could have been defined by the deadliest tornado event in state history in 1953, the closure of the General Motors factory in 1999 or the closure of the local high school in 2013. Instead, the Flint suburb chose to come together, rebuild its community and move forward. Today, Beecher is a neighborhood consisting of quaint, cute homes on well-maintained plots of land. With quiet, winding streets, homes in Beecher feature private driveways and cared-for lawns. The flat and well-paved sidewalks make it easy for dog walkers. Tall, mature trees provide shade and also bring color to the neighborhood.
Colonial and minimal homes
Established colonial-style homes are mixed with ranch-style and Minimal Traditional homes along Beecher’s streets. There isn’t a distinct downtown to Beecher, giving the community a more residential feel. “If you get into Beecher, the price is nowhere near the same price as the city,” says Allan Hobson, a Realtor with RE/MAX Edge. “You’ll see more inventory and more affordable, acquirable houses.” The competitively priced community has a median home value of $33,000, making it more affordable than nearby Mt. Morris, though some houses reach prices up to $115,000.

Kid's Kingdom and Blubell Beach
“For parks, there’s Kid’s Kingdom, a great park in Mt. Morris with a big playground,” Hobson says. While most residents don’t have a community park within easy walking distance, Beecher residents can head to the beach for summertime swimming, splashing and sun. Bluebell Beach is a welcoming sandy strip along C.S. Mott Lake, right beside a splash pad and large playground. Instead of a day at the beach, use the parking lot to access the Iron Belle Trail, a statewide trail that extends over 2,000 miles from Belle Isle all the way to the western edge of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad is a family-fun 1800s-era lakeside village in Beecher.

Gillie's Coney Island is a staple
Saginaw Street’s Great Giant Supermarket is a convenient local grocery store for staple items, and you can find a Kroger north of Beecher on the way to central Mt. Morris. “There isn’t a big variety of restaurants,” Hobson says. “Though there are a couple of good drive-through places and American restaurants.” While you won’t find an extensive array of dining options in the Beecher community, Gillie’s Coney Island is an institution known for serving Flint-style coney dogs, covered in ground beef and a blend of spices, 24 hours a day. You can also order fried catfish and soul food favorites at Wood’s Ribs and Fish, a long-time local establishment on the corner of Saginaw Street and Tremont Avenue.
While Beecher has its own distinct community and amenities, it’s an easy drive to Flint for employment, an inspiring visit to the Flint Institute of Arts or hours of high-energy indoor fun at the Flint Children’s Museum. Like neighboring Flint, Beecher may have had a few setbacks throughout the years, but it continues to show determination and the strength of its community as it looks to the future.

Beecher High has the hoops
Kids enter Beecher Community School District, beginning at Dailey Elementary, which holds a D-plus grade on Niche and an 11-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio. Next is Hamady Middle, which has the same Niche grade, before Beecher High, which has a C-minus rating. Beecher High School is known for its competitive athletics department. The high school basketball team has won the second-most basketball state titles in the history of the Michigan High School Athletics Association. Students can also enroll in the Beecher Higher Learning Academy, which offers an alternative route to a high school diploma in a four-day week schedule. The New Standard Academy is a charter school option that focuses not only on college readiness but also on a holistic curriculum that includes wellness programs and extracurricular activities.
MTA stops on Saginaw
Beecher residents can hop on a bus courtesy of the Mass Transportation Authority. The MTA travels all over the Flint area and has frequent stops along Saginaw Street. Interstate 475 goes straight through the neighborhood and meets with Interstate 75 just a mile away to provide easy routes to surrounding areas.
