Neighborly vibes and natural beauty in Richfield Township
Richfield Township is a rural community of about 8,000 nestled between many parks and lakes in Central Michigan. It's home to stretches of farmland and forest northeast of Flint and is notable for having some of the most popular recreational offerings in Genesee County, including campgrounds, creeks and a reservoir. It's also close to the schools and amenities in nearby Davidson. “I have no problem calling up my neighbor and saying, ‘I think I left something on in the house, can you go over and check it out?’” says deputy supervisor and treasurer Brian Arnes, who has lived in the township for almost three decades. “That’s one of the reasons we haven’t moved. We have great neighbors.”
Ranch-style homes with wooded acres and waterfront access
Older homes are spaced out on country roads between the lake and the reservoir. Ranch-style homes are most common. Some Colonial, Cape Cod and contemporary builds can also be found throughout the area. Smaller homes farther inland can have covered decks, outdoor sheds and pole barns. Prices range between $100,000 to $300,000. Larger waterfront properties sit on wooded lots and cost between $300,000 and $550,000.
Fishing, kayaking and camping by Holloway Reservoir
Richfield Township is situated between the Holloway Reservoir and C.S. Mott Lake and has several recreational amenities right by the water. Richfield County Park has a BMX track, and the Goldenrod Disc Golf Course is free to play across all 18 baskets. There are multiple canoe and kayak launches along Flint River, and skiing and snowmobiling take place in the winter. “A lot of our land is parkland,” Arnes says. “We have the Wolverine Campground up on the reservoir, and they recently expanded to have more sites in the last couple of years. A lot of people use it, and there’s some pretty good fishing there too.” There’s also a playground at Broadview Estates and a small water park with mini golf at Lake Shore Resort.

An interstate between Flint and Davison
Michigan state Highway 15 cuts straight through the township and leads south toward Interstate 69. While the township doesn’t have any public transportation, MTA Flint does offer personalized transit from its service station in Davison. The McLaren Lapeer Region hospital is open 24 hours a day and is less than 15 miles east, while Bishop International Airport is around 18 miles west in Flint.
Smoked meats, a sports bar and salvage vehicles
There are very few restaurants and businesses within the township itself. MoJoe’s Wing House offers bone-in and boneless wings and occasionally hosts horseshoe and cornhole leagues. Baby Jake’s Pizza shares space with The Corner Cone ice cream shop, and M.D.’s Sports Tavern & Grill serves applewood-smoked barbecue, seafood and stromboli. Tau Gardens sells fresh soil, seeds and houseplants inside its small greenhouse, plus there’s a Copart dealership with used and salvage vehicles. Most people will travel to Davison for more shopping and dining options, which include grocery stores such as Kroger, VG’s Grocery and Dollar General.
