Central neighborhood with older homes close to downtown
Sitting just south of Cherokee Road and Timrod Park is Forest Hills, a residential neighborhood less than 2 miles from Downtown Florence. The central location sits within a couple of miles from several outdoor recreation opportunities, the lively downtown district and the expanding commercial and industrial growth of South Florence. Houses are usually mid-century homes with a higher average value than the rest of the Florence Metro Area. "The homes are more established and older, but with lots of character," says Charisse Reichenbach, a Florence resident and business owner.

Ranch-styles and classic architecture on larger lots
Forest Hills homes are larger and older than those in nearby neighborhoods. Prices can range from $420,000 for a brick ranch-style home with at least three bedrooms and multiple bathrooms to around $800,000 for a house with classic architectural shapes and modern features like a detached suite. The older homes sit on organized rows with state roads weaving through the area. The state roads go in one direction while a grass median with trees splits them. Street parking is limited; however, most homes include driveways or garages. Oak trees taller than the homes fill the neighborhood streets, with some clusters providing a canopy over homes and roadways.
Unique classical homes can be found sitting on small plots of land in Forest Hills.

Kayaking a historic water trail at Lynches River County Park
Lucas Park is the only park in the neighborhood boundaries. Trees of various sizes fill the 12-acre park alongside natural trails and gardens. A modest playground sits beneath a row of trees with picnic tables and a tennis court nearby. South of Forest Hills is Jeffries Creek Park, featuring 55 acres of wooded wetlands with trails, picnic tables and a playground along Jeffries Creek. The neighborhood is about 14 miles north of Lynches River County Park, one of the entry points for the Revolutionary Rivers, a water trail spanning over 60 miles. Paddlers and kayakers follow the trail, highlighting swampland that Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion used as a hideout while fighting the British. "I love the outdoor stuff like the kayaking and paddling," says Heather Keffer, the Marketing and Communications Manager with Visit Florence. "I can go by myself, I can take the family, or I can go with a group of 30 and do it."
There are also a few greenspaces around the Forest Hills neighborhood.
