Spacious neighborhood with impressive schools near Grapevine Lake

Just north of Grapevine Lake in Flower Mound lies the neighborhood of River Oaks, known for its large, upscale homes set on spacious lots. “It’s heavily wooded, and Flower Mound has a tree ordinance where you can’t take down a tree without a permit,” says Jan Dunson, a Realtor with RE/MAX DFW Associates and a longtime resident of Flower Mound. “It’s a beautiful, 1-acre minimum community.” Custom-built estates are tucked behind sprawling, tree-covered front yards that provide residents with plenty of privacy. Highly rated Lewisville Independent Schools and access to hiking and biking trails at nearby parks add to the neighborhood's appeal, as does its proximity to several golf courses and all the activities in the town of Flower Mound.

Custom-built new-traditional homes on 1-acre lots

Luxurious estates set on 1 to 2 acres line the streets of River Oaks; houses measure 4,000 to 6,500 square feet with four to six bedrooms and nearly all have backyard pools. “Every home is a luxury custom home boasting its own unique style,” says Christy Arnold, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty and a longtime resident of Flower Mound. Homes move quickly, she notes, with only a few on the market at any given time despite price tags between $1.3 million and $1.7 million. Residents also pay an HOA fee that covers ground maintenance. There are no sidewalks but streets are wide enough for strolling.

Exceptional athletics at Flower Mound High School

The Lewisville Independent School District, which earns an A grade from Niche, serves the neighborhood. For Pre-K through fifth grade, children attend Liberty Elementary, which receives an A, then move to McKamy Middle, which also earns an A. In ninth grade, students head to Flower Mound High, which is an A-plus-rated school with an impressive athletics track record, winning state championships in baseball, soccer and volleyball. For private instruction, Coram Deo Academy of Flower Mound is located in River Oaks; it serves Pre-K through 12th grade and earns an A grade from Niche.

From Twin Coves Park to Rockledge Park

River Oaks is close to Twin Coves Park, where there is boat access for Grapevine Lake, a volleyball court, disc golf course and trails for hiking and biking. Rockledge Park is a great spot for a family barbecue at the pavilions overlooking the lake or a biking adventure on one of the trails. Visitors can also fish at various spots in the park or even get out on the water using the park’s kayak rental program. Post Oak Park, next door to River Oaks, features a small playground.

"Great happy hours" in Lakeside Village

Lakeside Village, about 5 miles south, is a popular area for dining. “The Tavern at Lakeside and 1845 offer great happy hours," Arnold says. The Tavern at Lakeside, known for its baby back ribs, is where locals can catch a game, while 1845 features an upscale interior and a hearty, meat-centric menu. "Mio Nonno Trattoria is some of the best Italian around,” Arnold says of the Italian spot serving classics like fettuccine Bolognese and gnocchi. For groceries, a Kroger and Walmart Neighborhood Market are less than 4 miles away.

Just 12 miles from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

Commuters can get to Dallas or Fort Worth in less than an hour, depending on traffic. Downtown Dallas is a 29-mile drive, while Downtown Fort Worth is 34 miles away. River Oaks is just 12 miles from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. For hospitals, Medical City Lewisville is 8 miles east of the neighborhood. There is no public transportation in the Flower Mound area.

Live music at Heritage Park

While River Oaks doesn’t organize neighborhood events, the town of Flower Mound hosts many throughout the year. In July, Independence Fest includes live music leading up to a fireworks show once the sun goes down. On July 4th, the Children’s Parade leads to Leonard & Helen Johns Community Park, where children can enjoy free food, drinks and many fun activities. On Fridays during the summer, the town puts on its Concerts in the Park series at Heritage Park.

A short drive from a variety of golf courses

Many public and private golf courses are a short drive from River Oaks. Tour 18 is famous for its holes replicating some of the most renowned courses in professional golf so players can experience what the PGA Tour is like, even for a round. Grapevine Golf Course offers 27 holes and an annual pass for those who will want to play more often. Other public courses nearby include Bridlewood Golf Club and Cowboys Golf Club. Those looking for a country club experience can consider joining the Trophy Club, Vaquero Club or the Lantana Golf Club.
