Sierra Lakes
Laid-back lifestyles in contemporary housing
While many golf club communities are built around a central course, Sierra Lakes is a bit different. This course spreads out in a kind of starfish shape. The homes are arranged around the course’s offshoots, making many streets gently curve before ending in cul-de-sacs. These large properties have manicured lawns and attached garages, with some using solar panels for electricity. The community has few vacancies for its Spanish-inspired houses and California Craftsman-style homes. “Sierra Lakes is one of the area's only golf course communities without a HOA. That’s very rare. It’s a nice neighborhood, very well kept, and they have a great Sunday brunch at the course,” says Scott Gee, a real estate specialist with Realty Masters and Associates with 13 years of experience. “Another thing that draws people is that the community has a price point about $50,000 less than some surrounding areas, and it’s close to shopping, with big retailers like Costco in the neighborhood.” Homes sell for a median price of $725,000 after 37 days on the market. However, the entire price range begins around $580,000 and continues to $900,000.Highly rated schools with multiple career pathways
Students attend Niche B-rated Sierra Lakes Elementary, B-rated Wayne Ruble Middle and A-minus-rated Summit High. The high school provides eight college and career technical education pathways, like cyber forensics, international business and multimedia design. Chaffey College’s Fontana campus opened in 1996 and offers over 170 two-year degrees and professional certificates.Sports parks, golf courses and hiking trails
One thing Sierra Lakes doesn’t lack is green spaces. A half-dozen are dotted in and around the neighborhood, including Patricia Marrujo Park. This space is made up of baseball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds and walking trails. Ralph M. Lewis Sports Complex has soccer and football fields and is home to Fontana’s Pop Warner league. The Sierra Lakes Golf Club welcomes players of all ages and skill levels and features several putting greens and driving ranges. Just outside the neighborhood, Fontana Park is home to a dog park, community center and hockey rink. It also has an aquatics center with a 14-lane pool and a skate park with bowls, rails and boxes. The park hosts the Fontana Farmer’s Market on Sunday mornings for local produce and specialty vendors, too. All that is in addition to the numerous hiking trails through the nearby foothills.Large shopping centers and Sunday brunch
As a planned community, Sierra Lakes has numerous amenities built in. There’s shopping, dining and services a stone’s throw away. Sierra Lakes Shopping Center forms a barrier between the community and the freeway. The expansive commercial strip has large retailers and grocery stores, like Costco and Ralphs, alongside an assortment of chain restaurants. Locally owned Sierra Noodle House is located beside the freeway’s Sierra off-ramp. It's known for its creative takes on traditional Asian cuisines. The golf course’s clubhouse also serves a buffet-style brunch on most Sundays, which is very popular in the community.Driving, biking and walking through North Fontana
Traveling through the region is as easy as getting around Fontana from Sierra Lakes. The 210 Freeway borders the community, which is very close to Interstate 15. There are also bus stops throughout the area, and a Metrolink station with routes to Los Angeles is a few miles away downtown. Cyclists can find bike lanes along several of the neighborhood’s major roads, and sidewalks connecting the community together are abundant. Sierra Lakes is 2.5 miles from the Arrowhead Fontana Family Health Medical Center and 13 miles from the Ontario International Airport.Houses of worship
Sierra Lakes is less than three miles from the Ar-Rahman Islamic Center and the Inland Valley Islamic Society. Within that same three-mile radius, there are more than a dozen Protestant and Catholic churches, some of which offer multilingual services.
Environmental factors
Nearly 85% of the community is at an increased risk of wildfires. Luckily, San Bernardino County Fire Station 81 is in the center of the area to keep response times low. All of the San Bernardino Valley experiences earthquakes with Sierra Lakes being no exception. However, the neighborhood is far enough from the San Jacinto Fault that the last quake more significant than a six on the Richter Scale occurred in 1933.
