A township with suburban amenities and rural appeal
In West Michigan, education opportunities don’t get much better than those offered in Grand Rapids Township. “Buyers love to live there because of the great schools,” says Donna Anders, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, who has more than 30 years of experience selling in West Michigan. Part of the highly rated Forest Hills Public School District, the township includes diverse housing options, a commercial district along East Beltline Avenue and major cultural destinations such as the Frederik Meijer Gardens. “There are also lots of beautiful trees and some natural lakes, too,” which gives the township a rural appeal, Anders says. With easy access to top employers and medical centers along Interstate 96, Grand Rapids Township offers a welcoming suburban-rural feel about 10 miles from downtown Grand Rapids.
Diverse homes and low tax rates
With small, planned communities, custom homes on multi-acre lots and tree-shrouded condos, Grand Rapids Township offers a diverse residential landscape that attracts buyers at all stages and budgets. “There are a lot of lovely homes in the township. It’s just a beautiful place to live with lots of friendly people,” Anders says. Waterside properties dot the shores of Perch Lake, while split levels and ranch-style homes are more common in the township’s northern neighborhoods. Buyers can expect most 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom homes and condos to sell in the $250,000 to $350,000 range. Larger Craftsman and custom homes can range in price from $500,000 to nearly $2 million, but “taxes are a little bit lower in the township,” so buyers often pick these properties over those closer to the city of Grand Rapids, Anders says.

Forest Hills offers the best education in the state
Most students in the township are zoned for the Forest Hills Public School District. Well-known as one of the highest rated districts in the state, Forest Hills proudly boasts an overall grade of A-plus on Niche, and individual schools all maintain grades of A or higher. Students on the north end of the township can attend schools in the Eastern Attendance Area, including Knapp Forest Elementary, Eastern Middle and Eastern High. Students to the south are zoned for the Northern Attendance Area, where they can spend kindergarten through fourth grade at Collins Elementary before attending Northern Trails School for fifth and sixth grade and Northern Hills Middle for seventh and eighth grade. At Northern High, students can participate in Project NEXT, a project-based program that focuses on preparing students to join the workforce with courses such as Design Thinking 101. A district-wide STEM Academy program is also available to students at both high schools.

Exploring nature and art at Meijer Gardens
Covering 158 acres and featuring more than 200 sculptures, the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park is one of Grand Rapids’ top cultural destinations. Visitors can explore a 15,000-square-foot tropical conservatory or walk through half a dozen themed gardens, including a Michigan farm garden that showcases heirloom vegetables popular in the 20th century. In spring, thousands of visitors gather to experience one of the nation’s largest butterfly exhibits. And in summer, the garden’s amphitheater hosts outdoor concerts in the landscaped amphitheater. Provin Trails and Crahen Valley Park are also popular spots for summer walks, while Grand Rapids Township Park caters to athletes of all ages and abilities with tennis courts, baseball fields and a playground just off East Beltline Avenue.
