An active civic association promotes community engagement on the outskirts of Queen City
To locals, Pleasant Run Farm, a Springfield Township neighborhood approximately 25 miles from Downtown Cincinnati, is better known as "the Farms." Primarily established in the 1960s, the subdivision still maintains its mid-century charm. Modest brick homes sit evenly spaced along sidewalk-lined streets, and golf courses like Fairfield South Trace and Winton Woods are a few minutes away by car or—for some—by foot. Kisha Scruggs of Huff Realty describes Pleasant Run Farms as "a neighborhood sandwiched between other suburbs." There's Fairfield to the north, Mt. Healthy to the south and Pleasant Run in the nearby Colerain Township. The Pleasant Run Farm Civic Association (PRFCA) promotes community engagement, working, for instance, to upgrade the swim club on Elkwood Drive and to schedule events in Clifford Geroge Park. "Based on my experience selling in the neighborhood, everyone typically feels welcome there," says Scruggs.

Mid-century brick homes and condo units on Hamilton Avenue
Although the majority of homes in the Farms were built around the same era—the late 1960s and early '70s—Scruggs says it's far from a "cookie cutter" suburb. "You'll find two stories, Traditionals and new construction. It has bi-levels and tri-levels. It has ranch-styles, everything," she says. It's common to find brick siding and multi-car garages, and prices generally hover between $215,000 and $340,000. There are also condo units along Hamilton Avenue, and two-bedroom prices can start around $150,000. Families set up basketball hoops in their driveways, and lot sizes average around a quarter of an acre, which means enough space for games of catch, flower beds and mature trees. The neighborhood has a 3 out of 10 CAP Index Crime Score, which is lower than the national average of 4.

A neighborhood swim club and community activity in Clifford George Park
The Pleasant Run Farms Swim Club, maintained by the Civic Association, has "affordable membership rates," according to Kathleen Kennedy, assistant township administrator for Springfield Township; and the Red Cross offers swim lessons during the summer. Clifford George Park, the neighborhood's unofficial center, is a few blocks away. "It's a very active park where there are scheduled Township activities and athletic clubs," says Kennedy. Armed with gloves and trash bags, residents take part in scheduled park clean-ups, attend occasional outdoor movie nights, or practice baseball on the fields. Huffman Park borders the neighborhood to the north in Fairfield and includes paved walking and biking trails, a playground and a community garden. There's also a connected public golf course, Fairfield South Trace, where tee times are reserved in advance online. Others head to Winton Woods for golf or stop by the splash pad beside Winton Lake to cool off during the summer.

Retail options along Hamilton Avenue and in Forest Park
With the exception of Hamilton Avenue businesses like Dollar Tree and Cancun Mexican Restaurant, where residents can pick up chalupas and tamales to go, Pleasant Run Farms is almost entirely residential. "People more so go up the street to Forest Park for chain options," says Scruggs. There's a Cracker Barrel and an Old Spaghetti Factory, and, in the words of Scruggs, "Frisch's is the hamburger spot." She also points to Skyline Chili, "a brand central to Cincinnati" for chili and more. Nearby grocery options include Kroger, and big box stores include Kohl's and The Home Depot.

Merging Colerain and Northwest High Schools
According to Scruggs, The Northwest Local School District recently voted to consolidate Northwest and Colerain High Schools; this will mean the construction of a new, larger school on Cheviot Road set to house approximately 2,500 students. For the time being, ninth through twelfth graders can attend Northwest High School on Pippin Road. It earns a C-plus on Niche, and the Butler Tech Program allows students to accumulate industry credentials in fields like criminal justice and cosmetology. Pleasant Run Elementary and Pleasant Run Middle are a few minutes' drive away for most residents and receive a C-plus and C from Niche, respectively.

Cultural events at the Germania Society of Cincinnati
The Germania Society of Cincinnati has been hosting Oktoberfest in neighboring Pleasant Run since the 1970s; admission is $5, and hundreds of weekend visitors attend to enjoy authentic German food, beer and music. There's also a Christmas market—or Christkindlmarkt—in November where vendors sell everything from Glühwein to imported cuckoo clocks. During the summer months, residents can look forward to a family-friendly Biergarten series. Huffman Park, meanwhile, hosts events like Sunrise Yoga and monthly stargazing, which is sponsored by the Cincinnati Astronomical Society.
Interstate 275 to Downtown Cincinnati
According to Scruggs, it's Pleasant Run Farms' central location that makes it desirable. "You're close to Interstate 275, and you can get right to the 75," she says. Downtown Cincinnati is approximately 25 miles—or 30 minutes—away via I-275, which also leads to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport across the Ohio River. Bus 20, part of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) system, stops near Fairfield shopping on its way south toward Downtown Cincinnati, but public transit is limited within the neighborhood itself. The nearest hospital is Mercy Health - Fairfield, where the dozens of services include maternity care, primary care and urgent care.

Feels like family. I think that eventually it might go downhill but as long as I have friends and family around me, ot won't matter.

There are many police officers that live within the community and make their presence known, so as you can imagine the crime rate is very low and almost non existent.
