Located just 22 miles east of Downtown Dallas, the City of Forney, Texas, offers the benefits of a big-city suburb while retaining its original feel. “Its proximity to Dallas makes commuting easy, but Forney still has a lot of those community vibes of a smaller, more rural town,” says Lee Trowbridge, a Realtor with Rogers Healy and Associates. As of 2022, Forney had a population of 32,000, more than double the number in 2010. The city has also been nicknamed the “Antique Capital of Texas” due to its strong local antique industry. A handful of shopping centers bring the community together for dining, movie-going and other recreational activities. A local community park and highly rated schools add to Forney’s small-town appeal, while Highway 80 ensures that residents never feel too far from the action of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex. Forney's largest employers are Forney Independent Schools, an Amazon Fulfillment Center and Intex.

Population growth spurring new builds

In Forney, homebuyers will mostly find houses with lots up to an acre, many of which sit in subdivisions like Grayhawk and Devonshire. Near the older downtown area, homes built in the early-to-mid-20th century add diversity to Forney’s recently built housing stock. "It's a mix of old and new houses in Forney," Trowbridge says. "A lot of the newer homes are bigger, so Forney is a great bang for your buck as far as what you can get for the price: a larger house with a great yard." Properties in Forney have a median sales price of $345,000, lower than the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area median price of $399,000, according to the Texas Real Estate Research Center.

Performances at Spellman Amphitheater

Forney is home to 242 acres of parkland. The most popular is Forney Community Park, which has a playground, a splash pad, a walking path, baseball and soccer fields and a basketball court. This park also features the 5,000-seat Spellman Amphitheater, where the town holds various events throughout the year, including concerts, theatrical productions and free movie nights. One mile up Main Street is the Spellman Museum of Forney History. Visitors can explore the past of Forney and Kaufman County through games, murals and exhibits. Also nearby is Lake Ray Hubbard, a 22,000-acre lake popular for boating, fishing and watersports. Forney residents with boats can launch them at Terry Park, 10 miles away.

Forney’s cultural scene is best experienced within this city’s historic downtown area near Bois d'Arc and Main streets. Local students can attend the Forney Independent School District, which receives a B grade from Niche. Forney High School gets an A-minus from Niche for its strong college prep, engineering and athletics programs. Forney’s transportation

Forney’s location along Highway 80 puts residents within 22 miles of Downtown Dallas. Just south of the city is Interstate 20, which skirts Fort Worth and Dallas. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is a 39-mile drive, while Dallas Love Field is 27 miles away. Forney is also served by STAR buses. The nearest hospital to Forney is the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Sunnyvale, 8 miles away.

According to the Forney Police Department, Forney’s violent crime rate in December 2023 was 59.1 offenses per 100,000 residents, nearly half that of the state and national averages. The city’s property crime rate in December 2023 was 85.9 per 100,000 residents, well below the state and national averages.
