Holiday Park attracts professional athletes
Holiday Park is the hub for recreation, spanning over 90 acres of green space just south of the neighborhood. Sports enthusiasts will feel right at home on the park’s baseball diamonds, soccer fields and basketball and tennis courts. Other facilities include hiking trails and a dog park for canine companions. “Holiday Park is just so big and always has tons of events going on,” Bergman says. Live music echoes throughout during the summer as part of the Starlight Musical Concert series. Visitors can also pop into the Baptist Health IcePlex, the official practice facility of the NHL’s Florida Panthers. The Parker is a famous performing arts theatre nearby that hosts year-round Broadway plays and musical touring acts in a 1,1600+ capacity space. Down the street, residents enjoy exploring the lush Florida landscape by land or sea at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. And the lapping shores of Fort Lauderdale Beach are just 2 miles away.Kick off the summer at the Great American Beach Party
Lake Ridge residents are close to the year-round events put on by the City of Fort Lauderdale. The Great American Beach Party kicks off the South Florida summer with a day full of live music, entertainment and a classic car show. The celebration takes place every Memorial Day weekend and includes military tributes. Other events include the Tortuga Music Festival and the Fort Lauderdale Air Show.
Pastel-colored ranchers and backyard pools
Under the shade of towering palm trees lies an array of quaint Florida ranchers with pastel colors and tiled roofs. This is the predominant single-family style within the neighborhood, and many buildings have well-manicured front lawns and backyard swimming pools. Numerous properties were constructed in the 1950s and 60s, but the area is seeing an influx of recent renovations. “Investors have come in and developed a lot of property,” Bergman says. “There’s a lot of brand-new townhouses, and everything is updated and modern.” Single-family builds range between $700,000 and $1.5 million, while contemporary townhouses sell for $1 million to $1.3 million. Recently constructed ultra-moderns are scattered throughout and can top $3 million. The market is very competitive, and houses here sell quickly, notes Bergman. Lake Ridge is at risk for flooding and lies in a FEMA-designated Flood Zone Area. Flood insurance is highly recommended, and the City of Fort Lauderdale provides numerous resources on its website.
Upscale restaurants with extensive shopping nearby
Residents are close to vibrant shopping and dining locations within the neighborhood and in the surrounding areas of Fort Lauderdale. Padrino’s is a popular local chain with a Cuban-inspired menu featuring tasty sandwiches and paella for two. Nearby, J. Mark’s has been a favorite happy hour spot since it opened its doors in 2007. Residents head to Publix Super Market at Sunrise Boulevard for weekly groceries. The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale is one of South Florida’s premiere shopping destinations, just 2 miles down the road. The retail mecca features over 100 fashion stores, including Macy’s, Banana Republic and H&M. Kindred Hospital South Florida – Ft. Lauderdale is one of numerous medical facilities in the area. According to the CAP Index, Lake Ridge has a crime score higher than the national average.
Fort Lauderdale High School’s academic programs
The Broward County Public School District serves the neighborhood and is the sixth-largest district in the nation. Fort Lauderdale High School is a standout magnet school with a pre-law and public affairs academic program. Fort Lauderdale High is the oldest continuously functioning high school in Broward County and received an A-rating on Niche. Sunrise Middle School similarly features numerous magnet programs, including the Technology CAPE Academy and Montessori Magnet Academy. Sunrise Middle School received a B rating on Niche, while Bennett Elementary received a B-minus. St. Anthony Catholic School is a historic private school option parents may consider.
A Pedestrian-friendly neighborhood
The neighborhood is friendly to both pedestrians and bicyclists, and many attractions, like Holiday Park, are within walking distance. Sunrise Boulevard runs along the southern border and connects to Interstate 95. Downtown Fort Lauder is just 2 miles to the south, while those traveling farther can head to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, 7 miles away. Broward County Transit services numerous bus stops throughout the neighborhood.
