Victoria Park

Mediterranean Revivals and contemporary charm
Victoria Park came to be in the 1920s as an exclusive vacation spot named after the developer’s daughter. While the area remains somewhat exclusive, many of its two-bedroom cottages built for snowbird residents are long gone. Today, Victoria Park is, for the most part, a full-time neighborhood home to three-, four- and five-bedroom residences that display much more than quaint charm. The grand arches, stucco siding and barrel roof tiles of Mediterranean Revivals can be found throughout the community, alongside the clean lines of modern and contemporary styles — an interesting contrast with the area’s tropical flora. Midcentury ranch-style homes dapple palm-shaded streets as well. “You kind of have the whole range here,” says Kennedy. “You could get a condo for $250,000 and a house for $5 million. Honestly, that’s just South Florida.” One-bedroom condos can be found for less than $300,000, while townhouses climb upwards of $600,000. Single-family homes range from $1 million to $6 million. Driveways are standard; garages and carports are common.Magnet programs at Fort Lauderdale High
Students living in Victoria Park attend Broward County Public Schools. They can start their academic careers off strong at Harbordale Elementary, rated A-minus on Niche, before moving on to Sunrise Middle, rated B-minus. Fort Lauderdale High is the last stop on this academic line, rated with an A. This high school is home to two magnet programs. The Cambridge International magnet program features a rigorous college-level curriculum, allowing students to graduate from high school with up to two years of college credit. The Pre-Law and Public Affairs magnet program is a college prep program for those with careers in criminal justice, social work, politics and public service in mind.Holiday Park
A walk along Annie Beck Park’s waterfront walkway is accompanied by palms swaying in the wind and watercraft passing by on the canal. It’s perfect for a picnic or just to get a breath a fresh air.Holiday Park is a huge recreation hub spanning over 93 acres across Victoria Park’s north side. Local Little League practices and games are held across the park’s several baseball diamonds. Pup parents let their four-legged friends socialize at the dog park. The park is also home to pickleball and basketball courts, as well as the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center and Baptist Health Iceplex, so athletes of all types can practice their sport of choice.
Next door to Holiday Park, The Parker is a popular performing arts theater that has hosted Broadway musicals since 1967. It also has an itinerary of other events, including live music in genres such as gospel, jazz and symphony. Local ice hockey fans can watch the Panthers practice at their new home, the Baptist Health Iceplex, located within the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial, which is tucked into the west side of Holiday Park.
Shopping and dining along Federal Highway
Big-name grocery stores are close by on Federal Highway, including Fresh Market and Winn Dixie. Federal Highway is also studded by casual lunch and dinner spots like Foxy Brown, beloved for its comfort food items.Of course, Fort Lauderdale’s signature strip, Las Olas Boulevard, is the main scene for shopping and dining. “Las Olas is right there with plenty of stuff along the waterway like restaurants and even a boat taxi system,” Kennedy says. “There are some great dive bars and outdoor places like these big tents with DJs playing music and food trucks. I’m from Ohio, so moving here was, well, wow. Always something going on. You’re living in a vacation destination, after all.”
East Broward Boulevard to downtown
North Federal Highway, East Sunrise Boulevard and East Broward Boulevard border Victoria Park. Northeast 14th and Northeast 6th Street are the neighborhood’s main roads. Residents take NE 14th Street less than a mile south to East Broward Boulevard to head west into downtown, only minutes away. Commuters can also use buses provided by Broward County Transit. Bus stops sit along East Sunrise Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1.
